5150 Triathlon Series
Total Time = 2h 41m 25s
Overall Rank = 676/3141
Age Group = M40-44
Age Group Rank = 132/387
Pre-race routine:

Got a couple hours sleep then got up to eat a peanut butter and nutella sandwich on whole wheat bread and drink some gatorade. Went back to bed for an hour before getting up to get everything ready.
Event warmup:

No warm up unless you count the 1.5 mile walk to the starting line and putting on the wetsuit.
Swim
  • 20m 45s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 16s / 100 yards
Comments:

The start was a time-trial start. They would have 8-10 ppl sit on dock and go at 10 second intervals. I think it was a good way to start the race. There was quite a bit of chop that really bothered me. I couldn't get any sort of rhythm and stopped quite a few times to adjust myself and restart. Got a mouth full of water at least 3-4 times. Mmmm, Hudson River water.
Transition 1
  • 06m 15s
Comments:

Long run to transition. Knew my best friend Michael swam faster than me so ran fast to cut down the time. I caught up to him on the run and we entered transition together. I was out of transition :32 seconds before him even though he swam :59 seconds faster than I did.
Bike
  • 1h 23m 29s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 17.86 mile/hr
Comments:

Kept my head down and rode steady. This bike course is pretty aggravating with the really stupid people that do this race, but I tried my best to not let them get me out of my game. I did not ride as well back up the longish hill in the Bronx, but other than that it went OK.
Transition 2
  • 02m
Run
  • 48m 58s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 07m 53s  min/mile
Comments:

Just tried to keep it steady- not push too hard in the beginning. Was very fatigued at this point. The run up the initial hill to get out of transition took a lot out of me. I tried to keep the pace steady the whole way but know I was dogging it a bit late in the park. At the pace I was going, I was sure I would still have enough in me to push it the last 3/4 mile to the finish, but it just wasn't there. I had to concentrate to just keep my form in check.
Post race
Warm down:

Spent more time then normal by food and drink and just hydrated and ate.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The Ironman two weeks before really made this difficult to push. I thought that doing 140.6 miles a couple weeks before would have me in great shape to do an Olympic, but Lake Placid took too much out of me.
