I'm an avid reader, and read every kind of genre.  "Born to Run" is the first book I've ever read through, then immediately started back at the beginning to read again.

myred86 - 2012-01-11 9:04 AM I received "You Are An Ironman" for Christmas and could barely put it down.  Author escapes me at the moment though.

The author is Jacques Steinberg.  I also received it for Christmas, and enjoyed it.  However, I might be biased since I also did IMAZ 2009 as a first IM and it brought back a lot of memories of the training and race day as the athletes profiled in the book were doing the same as I was in parallel.

I loved "I'm here to win" by Macca and also "You are an Ironman" by Jacques Steinberg, both really motivating books and great reads. I think I want to pick up the Iron War and read that too.

Want to second Murakami's "What I Talk About..." Mostly about running, but I really thought the section about tri toward the end was the most compelling part.

It's Not About the Bike - Lance Armstrong's biography

French Revolutions - Tim Moore.  Basically the author decides to do the route of the 2000 Tour de France on his own ... without any training.  Absolutely hilarious and, as it's a true story, captivating at the same time.  Literally a laugh a page ...

"You are an Ironman" was a great book. I've also read "17 Hours to Glory" and re-read certain stories at times.

I just started Iron War and am blown away by Dave Scott...just getting to Mark Allens story.

Sometimes silly, but really fun is Know Regrets by Tim Durant. An unknown triathlete goes up against the best in Kona and gives it his all.

On a more serious note Why We Run by Bernd Heinrich is a predecessor to some of the Born to Run concepts, but it is written as a natural history book rather than a partially fictionalized story.

I gave Iron War as a birthday present in December and since the recipient and his wife just finished it, I'm awaiting them to loan it back to me so I can read it too.

I really enjoyed the "You Are An Ironman" book - got it for Christmas and read it in a week or so...I have "Hell on Two Wheels" on my list, which chronicles RAAM 2009.

X2

I am NOT a reader, but could not put that book down ~ excellent!

Not that his books are about endurance sports but I like Vince Flynn novels.  His main character is an ex Navy Seal that was an ironman triathlete.

Racing through the dark by David Millar.  From clean, to doped, to banned & broke and then back to clean. The guy is still racing.

I agree with many others but I will add one I didn't see on the list that is worth a read.  It's not your typical cycling book but an incredible true story.

I bought Know Regrets by Tim Durant based on this thread (I'll eventually get to all the ones I haven't read) and was disappointed to find out it's fiction, so I put it aside for now.  Don't know if I'll ever read it but for now I want real stories.  So FYI in case you're trying books out

"Heart of Iron" by Kyle Garlett.   It's a new release, and an amazing true story about courage and the power of the human spirit.  Kyle had cancer 4 times between the age of 18 and 35.  The years of chemotherapy took it's toll and destroyed not only his joints but his heart muscle.  Shoulder replacement, hip replacement, and 5 yrs on an organ transplant list. He got a new heart in 2006, and competed in his first triathlon in 2007.  Went on to compete in Ironman.  He writes with a great sense of humor.  GREAT read!!!

Finished:
Iron War - awesome read, and really inspirational training wise.  Gave also some training advice that I found interesting:  Run the way you run, and you do it more, your body will adapt to make your gait the most efficient gait you can have.  In other words, the ONLY thing you need to do is to run, and the best training and running gait, which will be individual to YOU, will follow.

You Are An Ironman - Awesome read, really enjoyed it.

In A Single Bound - first female amputee to finish Kona, although it wasn't all about triathlons.  Really enjoyed it.

Now I'm at a loss as to what to read next :\   Started In A Single Bound on Friday night, so that was a fairly fast read for me (222 pages).  I want something that will grab me like that sigh.... everything mentioned so far here I have either read or hasn't grabbed me like that.

x2 on Laura Hillenbrand's Unbroken--an amazing story, and one of the best books I've ever read.

Also loved The Perfect Mile, Once a Runner, and Running with the Buffaloes.
