Pre-race routine:

Got up a little later today, I think I got up at 3:00 a.m. and took a shower. Put on extra clothes today, too many actually. But, I was warm.
Event warmup:

Walk to start corrals. Stretched a bit. My legs felt OK, but not awesome.

Comments:

This was my first marathon so finishing vertical was a success to me. I got ambitious at about mile 10 or so and ran a couple of hard miles to see how long it would last. Not very long come to find out. I was pretty good until mile 20, then I was not so good. All in all I'll take it, but I was secretly hoping to be able to run about a 4:30-4:40. I think with another training cycle with more 20+ mile runs I can probably pull that off. The half the day before took more out of me than I really thought.
What would you do differently?:

Probably not do the Goofy Challenge for my first Marathon.
Post race
Warm down:

Rode the bus back to the resort, grabbed a cheeseburger, took a shower and went to bed. We went to the Magic Kingdom later on and I think that was the best thing I could have done. Walking around helped alleviate a lot of soreness I think. The next day my legs were tender, but not near like I was expecting.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I think my mileage was light for this. Now that I have some more base to work with I'll probably look at more agressive training plans for my next one with doubles and more weekly mileage. More long runs and long runs closer to race distance would have probably helped also.

Event comments:

Course wasn't as crowded today. Disney does put on a great event and it was awesome to see so many runners in one place. It is an expensive weekend, but also fun. The super early start times kind of put a damper on post race festivities, but it is nice to be done so early.

Congrats on your first marathon! Goofy was my first marathon too, and I was a little too ambitious too, I tried to qualify for Boston the day after the half! Check out my half and full reports from 2008.

Thank you sir. Figured it would be a good fitness test for the KS 70.3 that I want to try this summer.

It was amazing to see all the people running that weekend.

Awesome job on your first Marathon!  A little Goofy to do the Goofy for your first!!  Surprised  You definitely have a good base to keep building on--good luck with your first 70.3 this summer as well, it will feel much easier than the Goofy!
