Subject: Aquabike Suggestions

Hi all,

  I have been thinking about doing a half-Iron Aquabike this year as one of my big races.  Last year I did 4 sprints and have 1 sprint and 1-2Olympic Distance races on the books.  I was planning on doing the Vineman Half Aquabike and when I went to register it was sold out.  I have been looking at Orangeman and they changed the date of the race today and that date does not work for me.

  I do want to do an Aquabike this summer.  I know I am not ready for the run portion of a HIM, but can do the Swim/Bike.  I Live in Southern California and will pretty much drive to anywhere in California, Arizona or Nevada to do it.  Just wondering if anyone had any suggestions on which race to try.  Thanks in advance

Aquabikes are pretty rare, you could of course always just not do the run.

Santa Barbara Long Course is "not quite" a half but is midway between Oly and half, at 1/34/10, and is in August, the week after orangeman's proposed August date, and they are adding an aquabike to the current lineup (and it's a pretty tough bike)

I was going to recommend the Vineman half aquabike but it looks like it's already sold out for 2012. Vineman does a half and full aquabike along with the Full Vineman and Barb's race in July. It's a great event so may be something to put on your radar for 2013.

I know it sounds lame to some people but you could run/walk the run part if you can't handle the whole thing (and then end up pusing threw and running it all anyways)

USA Productions offers aquabike events at nearly all of their events.  Both of their "long courses" are 70.3 distance this year.
