the compete vs complete was obviously pulled. i am not sure why but could have been the fox complaint or something else. would be nice if there was a reason given because i thought the thread was useful and enlightening. it makes me hesitant to put up another TOTW until we know what the parameters are.

I'd love to do a related one called "TOTW: It's Just a Race: True or False?" but I won't because of what just happened.

It would seem that it was pulled because we are all 8 year old kids that cant handle such discussions.

I suspect that it was pulled because of the title but someone may have posted something later that I did not see.

I know and I think that all of the people who posted in the thread, including Mike, know that you meant to drive/attract viewers/posters with the title (and it totally worked!) but Mike had a point about it being potentially alienating to someone happening upon it without actually viewing the content of the thread.

AND, this is ancient history, but the prior moderator of the GA forum was ousted because of a thread with a theme similar to that evoked by the title of the recently pulled thread.

So, if the topic is still ripe for discussion (if we haven't beat the horse yet), you could start it with the new title and we have all proven that we can all have valuable discussion while disagreeing.

Or, we could just move to the next TOTW.

I would keep going with them. You are getting numerous responses and good discussion on questions that only become controversial when people disagree on the answer and respond in ways that are not conducive to productive dialogue. Personally, I have enjoyed reading these threads and hope you will not be discouraged.

I'd say the topic is probably burned out... I'm for moving on.

thanks alot Chicaskeeper!

amazing how many PMs and emails I got about keeping the TOTW going. what i am afraid of now that some of us are letting our hair down so to speak is that my TOTWs are not what everyone wants or needs. It does appeal to some on some existential level but some of you just want to talk about easy topics and that is fine too.

i don't want to be a dominant voice of what the board wants to discuss. I just like keeping it active so when Jordan says something ridic in training I think, that would make a good TOTW. i dont know how to do this other than to ask you all how you want the future TOTW structured? Frankly, as long as the board buzzes I am happy. The debates are fun too and I don't see any problem about being passionate if done in a respectful way.

Phat - I'm glad you got many PMs and I will put one out here publicly for you.  As I mentioned in my prior posts, you make lots of great contributions to this community.  I hope you will not be discouraged and rather remain just as involved as you were previously.

phat, I thought it was an awesome thread.  Never change.

I don't know why it was pulled, but rather than being "gun shy" I think you should call that one a "SCORE!".

Too many people going through life cautiously.  If I don't hit some guard rails, get a drafting penalty, crack a helmet once in a while, I'm not trying hard enough!

Keep charging!

Who deleted and why?   We pay the subscription and seems reasonable to understand why.  At the very least, if someone stepped over the line with a post, we should learn from it.

Phat- I have to say thanks for starting the TOWT threads.  I have enjoyed all of them but I particularly enjoyed the one that was pulled.  I cant figure out why people cant have honest discussions but then again look at the shape our country is in.  Anyway- I learned a lot from these threads and hope they continue and if they bother some people then they can choose not to read.

Thanks man.

This kind of reminds me of the 'save Ferris' campaign in Ferris Bueller's Day Off.. .  Go Phat!  Rage against the machine man!

I also think the TOTW format is great.  Especially through the winter when only nutty folks like us dreaming of race season like Christmas morning....  The value of learning from each other in a thread like this is much appreciated!

Per our moderator, who I think got where I was coming from, I stepped over the line with an inflammatory title and an inappropriate question:

"Thus, I ask you, who or what do you compete against or are you a wuss?"

She thought there was a way to get at the content without being inflammatory and off-putting to people who don't know me or my intentions. The goal of the forum is to get more people involved she said. I can respect her decision and rationale...

Wow. So whole threads are lost from the archive because one message had inappropriate (debatable) content. Having non-permanent conversations is far more alienating.
