mrbbrad - 2012-01-19 10:46 AM Let's review; BFD went into Starbucks with co-workers (plural) who did buy their coffee at Starbucks. While not a paying patron, he was with paying patrons. It's not like he walked in there alone and grabbed the vanilla. I say using a few shakes of a single condiment why accompanying multiple paying patrons is acceptable. Especially since it was a McDonalds coffee cup in a Starbucks.

I'm thinking along the lines of this one.  I would have jokingly mentioned something to BFD but not like it was a major trauma.  I buy the $2 bold brews at Starbucks because I like certain brews (Sumatra and Komodo Dragon two of my faves!).  You can't get that kind of boldness out of McD's coffee.  I'm not a coffee snob, but I have keyed in on flavors I like.  Also, I because of the relationship I have with the starbucks barista, I'm getting a free coffee once or twice a month

My brother runs a coffee shop of a much much smaller coffee chain.  I'm fairly sure he'd ban you for life for taking their supplies without buying something first.

That blows me away and strikes me as an opportunity lost. If it were me, I would take the opportunity to say hi, talk to his friends, make them feel at home, make him feel at home, let him know that I don't mind him coming in to get a splash of milk or whatever. I would ask if there was something that we were doing that was costing us his business. Ask him if there was anything that we could do to have him not only use our syrup but also purchase our coffee. And these are honest questions, not condescending, but if a guy comes in and grabs some free syrup I think I am entitled to ask them. Now, if in his answers he proved himself to be a then maybe I turf him. But if he treats everyone with respect and is just cheap then why wouldn't I want a guy like that in my coffee shop.

Now I don't know how the OP would respond.

THIS!! Spoken like a true manager/ company representative...

Nah. If you aren't a customer- you aren't entitled.  The condiments, and even the ambience of the coffeeshop is for paying customers.

So here's something I do sometimes; I'll go in the coffee shop and look at the menu for a few minutes. I might even get in line, but will get out of line before it's my turn. I never order. Then I leave. Yeah, that's right. I'm an ambiance thief!
