Arguendo, you slept funky & woke-up w/lower neck/upper back pain. Walking/running doesn't hurt, so you think it's cool to go for a light run or would you risk exacerbating the back problem?

Is it just today?

I would probably start the run. If it feels worse stop. If it feels fine during the run but the pain increases as the day goes on and I feel the run has caused the increase in pain I would take a few days off and try to get a massage. If the pain is a stabbing or sharp pain that does not resolve in a few days with rest I would call the doctor.

Not giving advice, this is just what I would do for myself.

Good luck!

I would run, but I run every day. A few months ago I ran for several weeks with painfully bruised ribs. Make it an easy effort when you're hurting.

I do it most days. I have two herniated disks that cause me a moderate amount of upper back/ neck/shoulder discomfort. Some days more than others. I almost always feel much better once I get warmed up and it tends to leave me feeling better for the rest of the day.

Depends on the problem for me.  If I am truly injured I stop all strenuous exercise.  If I just have aches and pains, that comes with the territory.  Is there ever a time when we arent sore somewhere?    I have a 'kink' between my shoulder blades that has given me fits since i stopped most of my weightlifting (the likely cause), but I run/swim/bike anyway.  I would say listen to your body above all.

Woke up with this problem a few months ago. I kept running and it kept getting worse but I don't think the two were related. It got so bad I needed to get a few treatments on it from a chiro. Took about a month to work itself out. Best advice I got was to change my sleeping position.Good luck.
