Alright I have completed my first Triathlon ever. It was a dismal showing but I am proud of having finished just the same.

I signed up for the NYC triathlon in the hopes that I would not Drown during St. Anthony's. You might think I drowned considering my swim time. (2nd from last in my Age group) But now Iam all fired up so I have two requests for information.

#1. Can anyone suggest a good (Read that as short, flat, fast course) sprint Tri in between Now and July 16th in the NY, NJ, CT area?

#2. Who's doing the NYC Tri?

June 18 in Port Washington is the Long Island Gold Coast Sprint. I did this race last year and it was ok, not one of my favorites but it fits your schedule. The swim is a point to point swim, like NYC, the bike is relatively flat, with only 2 small hills that you do twice, and the run is flat and fast. Last year I actually did this race and then did NYC as well. I'm pretty sure that you can still register for Gold Coast at www.nytc.org, if not just google it. Its a pretty big race, so I doubt that they are sold out actually as of Sunday 5/7 they were not full. Good Luck.

www.nytc.org also runs the Harriman Sprint Series. Nice lake swim, no major hills on the run, can't say the same about the bike though. I gaurantee it'll make the NYC bike ride seem flat as a pancake. I'm doing the Wykoff NJ Sprint on 6/17 (www.wykoffymca.org). Never done it before and I'm sure there are some hills but not like Harriman. I've heard it's a real good event.

I'm doing the NYC Tri.  Didi it a couple of years ago and it was great.  It was my first tri, so I didn't push myself on the run (and have been regretting it ever since! ).  Looking to better my time by a good margin this year.  Using it as a B race leading up to Timberman.

Best part: Crossing Broadway and 72nd street heading towards the Central Park.  Having a cop stop Broadway traffic on a busy summer weekend just for you, a lone runner, is totally surreal and makes you feel like a super star!
