I'm not sure about the current river temp, but it looks like last year's race was 67 degrees.

Rev3 sent out the "athlete guide" last week; looks like water and gatorade available on the bike at mm9.5, 26, and 42.5.  I'm thinking I will just run 1 cage between the bars and take my cage off the frame.

This might be a dumb question, but I carried all 56 miles of water with me from T1 at my first HIM.  72oz Camelbak backpack plus an extra water bottle.Cool  I am assuming they will give the disposable sports bottles with the top you can open 1 handed right?  If so, surely they take off any foil or plastic safety seal before handing it to you?

last IM I did, they gave partially opened waters and the "sports bottle" type gatorade bottles (twist to open, but the top didn't come completely off).

Remember to have a disposable bottle if you carry one in the bars and one on the frame..

Thanks; that's what I figured they would do.  I am actually thinking about completely taking off my frame mounted cage.  Based on training, if I start with 20 ounces of water, and pick up a new bottle at each of the 3 aid stations I should have plenty.

The only downside is that if I launch a bottle, depending on how far I am from the next aid station i'll have to stop.

Does the Rev3 have an official hotel for the athletes?

The forecast for Sunday is 88 degrees and sunny!  Going to be a hot one.

I'm definitely in taper mode now- doing shorter runs around 4 miles this week with some .5 mile intervals at race pace mixed in.  30-45 minute sessions on the trainer at or a little over race pace.  I'll probably have 16 miles running and around 45-50 miles on the bike leading into Saturday (rest) and hopefully be ready to go for race day!

If you're good with using Gatorade or water, I would definitely take the cage off your frame.  In the two 70.3 events I've done with Rev 3, I only used the one cage between my elbows, and it worked just fine.  I did drop a bottle once because it didn't fit well in the cage--the Gatorade "sport bottles" are a bit too skinny--but I took it in stride and just got a bottle at the next stop.  Whether they take off the foil is dependent on the volunteer.  In Connecticut, every bottle was open.  In Cedar Point, one of the bottles I got still had the foil on it and I had to sit up and undo it.

Sounds good. I actually rigged up a rubber band on the front of my water bottle mount so I can secure the disposable bottles; practiced using it for the past month or so and it should keep me from losing a bottle.

THis keeps changing daily, now hot and rainy (50% chance). going to have to roll with it, just will probably be a bit more conservative on the hills from a braking perspective. Carbon wheels don't stop as quickly..

Have your options ready for the various conditions and just go get it done. Too much thinking right now can stress you out. The best thing you can do right now is relax and save the energy for the race.

Well, I finished...

Race report is up if anyone's interested.  Overall I can't complain too much about my finishing time but the run was very sub-par for me.  Must have over done it on the bike. Yell

Great race, well organized and a lot of fun activities.  No complaints about Rev3, I would not hesitate to race another of their events in the future!

For the 2013 Rev3 Knoxville I am registered, but am now seeing I won't be able to travel.  According to the rules, I can transfer this to a 'friend'.  I am therefore looking for such a friend....

If interested, contact me and we can work out a deal - I am looking to not lose the entire registration fee and apply it to another race at a different time.

best,

thomas

A month away how's everyone's training? Looks like it might be a smaller race. I see less than 300 registered on active.com
