Maybe these aren't new but I don't remember seeing them before.  There is one in Wichita called the Riverside Tri.  You swim in the river and then do your bike and run in the river side area.  Not sure what I think about swimming the river.

July there is one at the water front in Wichita.  You swim in the water front and then bike in east Wichita and run in the water front.  seems interesting.

August there is one at Tuttle Creek in Manhattan.  Swim in the swim beach area and then bike and run from there.

Anyone heard of or done these events before?  Really the one that makes me wonder is the one in the river.  NOt sure what to think.

Do you have links for the ones in town? Sounds super shady, haven't heard about any of those and I run in some tight triathlon circles!

I think I may have found something:

Interesting. I'd love to do a tri in my old hometown of Manhattan. Hmmm...

You might want to sign up for the Oz Endurance newsletter. I get it and info went out on those tris a couple of weeks ago. The Waterfront one sounds interesting. I've always been enthralled with the idea of swimming in that pond!

I had questions about swimming in the river, too. I have friends who tube in the river, but when I asked them about it, they screwed up their faces and said they would never put their face in the river. Other than that, the event sounded fun.

Oh great, more events to cause me to not to have an "A" race.  I'm just too random .........

Yeah I'm wondering if the river will even be swim-able?! Right now there are huge sections you can literally walk across it's so dry. I might just watch that one this first year and see how it goes Surprised

Hey, it's on Aug 19th, the same day as the Jackson Tri.  At least I now have a decision to make, other than basically being forced into a KLM race....

looks like the riverside tri will be where they keep the water level up for the WSU rowers.  Ive never seen that part of the river very low.  Not to sure on the H20 quality though.  I live in riverside and I'd love the idea of a race in the area.  Unfortunately its the day after Ironman Texas for me though...

I had actually found them on this site:

http://www.trifind.com/ks.html

As someone had already posted the Oz Endurance website I believe these will be legit races because they seem to do ok.  They ran the one at El Dorado and the Storm the Dam trail run.  My real question is the cleanliness of the river.  I know we live in Kansas and the lakes aren't that clean but I'm not sure I trust the river.  That might be a wait until the last minute and decide if I want to do it for fun.  IT could be fun.  It could also make me sick!

I just looked on the Oz website and they changed the Riverside Triathlon to a Duathlon.  I'm guessing they got negative feed back from the river swim.  This is May 20th.

The YMCA changed their last Y Cup race to May 20th also.  Online it still shows it June 3rd but the pamphlets they had at the last race showed May 20th.  Guessing they decided to not try and compete with River Fest.

The Wichita YMCA's are also putting on a "Gladiator Run" on April 14th at Camp Hyde.  It is similar to the Warrior Dash type obstacle runs.  They have a brochure on their web site.  Pretty cool for the Y to be putting that on.

I was wrong about the May 20th on the NWY, apparently it is still June 3rd.  The downtown Y had out the old pamphlets.  Wanted to post in case someone was thinking about doing it.

And now, cancelled. I got the email this morning. No explanation. They'd already changed it to a duathlon, so I'm guessing low registration? Would they cancel an event because of that?

I need to find something for the end of May. I'm not scheduled for anything now until El Dorado in late June. Frown

The North West YMCA in Wichita is having an indoor/out tri June 3rd.  You swim 400 yds serpentine style in the pool, the ride 11.8 miles outside and 2.8 mile run.  Here is the link to the event.

I am going to do this one because it is close to my house and should be fun.
