Subject: Mississauga Half Marathon : Official Thread

Competed in 2010 for the first time and again in 2011 (with two others I was able to convince to join me).

The course changed somewhat between 2010 and 2011, wondering if anyone has any comments as to which they preferred and why?

personnally preferred the one in 2010.

cheers,

Last year was my first time out to it so can't comment on the route change, but overall liked it.  Was surprised how efficient the shuttle back to the mall was, although that was one damp and stinky bus!

Im signed up to run again this spring.  Looking forward to it!

Is this the race that's really flat?

It's more downhill than flat.

It's a fast course. Nothing really difficult.

The only challenging thing I noticed last year was that when you arrived close to the lake, you're not quite there yet, you still have 2/3 kms to go and I found this challenging to my mind.

Other than that, I just recall one or two hills, no too difficult, and then, down, down and down

I didn't quite liked the shuttle system for the finish line but it's my personal opinion

I did the half in 2010 and I liked it. The shuttle bus works well for me plus you don't have to pay for parking.

It busy at the end, 5000+ people trying to get on buses.  But they manage.

Its a net downhill, so a really fast course.  Theres one gradual climb, and one really steep one, other than that its flat and down :P

Not the most scenic run but they do take you through some parks and you finish at the water.  Probably as good as it gets in 'Sauga

FYI I am pretty sure the goodlife Toronto marathon is the same day again.

I had planned to race this one again and break last years time - but, I'm injured so that's out...I don't want to run it unless I think I can set a new PB.

How is everyones training coming along.  One last really long run then a nice long taper (28 this weekend then 20 the week after).  I am confident that as long as I don't get sick before the race that I will crush my previous PB which was also from Mississauga.  Looking forward to seeing how all the hard work I have put in over the winter pays off in my time.

I did the full yesterday. You can run 100 marathons and will never have better conditions than that. What a day.

I thought the race itself was very well organized and professionally done. I wasn't crazy about the rigamarole of the start line, shuttle buses, etc. but that is a normal part of any big race. They did a pretty reasonable job with that stuff.

I thought the advertisements of the "beauty of Mississauga" were kind of funny (I lived there for 6 years) but the course did run through some very nice areas and I forgot the lakefront is pretty nice.

Overall a great experience. My race was a bit of a mess, I decided to take some risks with the hope of a fantastic time, but my goal was too aggressive and I suffered though the last 15k. I am more sore today than after Ironman or other marathons. Oh well, I knew the risks and still managed a PB.

Congrats on the PB - even if the last 15km did hurt.
