Subject: 10 year wedding anniversary gift????

10 year wedding anniversary coming up May 26 (also my Birthday).  What am I supposed to buy my wife?  I have some ideas, but are there protocols for this 10 year date?  I thought about buying myself a new tri-bike for this special day, but I guess it's not all about me

Suggestions most welcome.

I am sort of in the same situation. My wife and I will be married 4 years in december, but been together for ten years the day before our wedding anniversary. I'm more into the planning of a weekend getaway. Maybe a BNB in a small town that no one has heard of.  Somewhere quite, no kids or phones, maybe a hammock in a rose garden for her to read in. Everyday something different for her, massage, manicure, pedicure....I'm starting early and I want it to be something different.

How about a trip back to where you went on your honeymoon?  Of course if you have kids, that might be an issue.  My 10 yr anniv is this year too, and I'm struggling with a gift idea too.....we were going to do the trip suggestion above, but now we'll have a newborn then.  Probably not good timing.

How about a hot air balloon ride, followed by a huge breakfast spread, then a day of relaxing?

Still, the tri bike idea is a good one.    haha.

everybody knows the 10 year anniversary is the aluminum anniversary.  So buy her a bike.

Traditional lists say to give aluminum or tin.  Contemporary lists say diamonds.  I think the contemporary lists are conspiracies of women.

Honeymoon return isnt new for us. We stayed at the Polynesian resort in Disney, ever since then she wants to go there, I shouldn't have spoiled her. We've been back a few times, she is expecting a new resort saty in Disney this year so I am going for a complete surprise.

allright, here's my thing: anniversarys are NOT for practical gifts. Gifts should be things that the person would not buy themselves. Is there something she's been really wanting, but not buying for herself because it's not practical? Buy that for her. And you know she'd like it.

(this coming from a girl who got a really really neat birthday present from her boyfriend...the first piece of jewlery he's bought me in 4 years of dating (and it's awesome)).
He got me one of these:

I'm thinking the BnB thing also.  I'm also thinking to myself, what in the heck has she been wanting lately that I can buy her.  I guess I suck for not knowing.  I think she just wants to get away from the kids and shop.  I'm thinking a small town BnB in Eureka Springs.  Do I still need to get her Diamonds or such??  She sure has put up with a lot of my $hit for 13 years.  Poor Girl!

Comet, there's no way around it.  I believe that if I bought her a Cervelo P3 (Red of'course) that she still would think I bought her one just so I could get my own.  She would be right of course and she would consider that oh hmmmmmmm, _________ "just insert one of your adjectives".

I'm not being cheap on questioning the Diamond thing.  It's just that besides this 10 year thingy, we're supposed to take the kids to Sea World in July, Washington D.C. , in October (MCM), then building deck and fence at home.  She's not super high maintenance and I don't think she'd mind not getting diamonds and such, but then again, 10 years married to me, she probably needs a Metal or something to show for it.  Maybe I just feel guilty if I'm not getting her a new ring or such.   That's why I was curious about aluminum, tin, diamond whatever protocal.  Is 10 years of marriage plus tack on a couple of years good measure, new diamond time or just something romantic?

I also vote for the #7 - thanks for that reminder with Mother's Day coming up.

If your wife is a very practical person and you think that diamonds are too impractical of a gift for her here's my advice:  buy her the diamonds.  One of two things will happen.

1.  She'll return them and spend the money on something she really wants/needs that is probably more practical while you still get all the credit for buying diamonds and will not have to worry about that issue for a long time.

2.  She'll keep them in which case you will know you got the right thing, she really loves them and you get all the credit for buying diamonds and will not have to worry about that issue for a long time.

Either way it makes the #7 a lot sweeter!

If I can remember the thread that wasn't - I think it's a reference to the confessions thread...

And I think romance is enough - you don't need to do diamonds. As much as I would love to get them I think a great romantic gesture would be even more appreciated - it shows you put more thought into the present.

You're looking at the guy that once bought his wife a canoe for our anniversary, and a fishing rod and reel for her birthday.  I am in no position to offer advice.  Except for the fact that if you survive dumb stunts like I have, then you are truly married to a jewel, and anything you get her will be appreciated.

So DON'T BLOW IT!

Ok, I'm not very practical, I like creativity. I don't know your wife.

However, I'm kind of classic (to an extent). What kind of classic 'everlasting' jewelry does she have? I'd suggest earrings or a necklace. Diamond studs. A nice diamond & birthstone pendant. She already has a ring, you could get her a diamond anniversary band, but that might be what she was expecting. Those are good jewelry options if she doesn't have a nice piece like those. Also, don't go to Kay or Zales or something (nothing wrong with them--just not unique). Go to a local jeweler. Get something one of a kind.

Sigh. Ok, now at least go somewhere for the weekend. Bed and Breakfast is great, get her a massage. Have a maid come clean the house too (if you don't have one) so she can have a break when she gets home and not the dreaded "I've been gone and now I have so much to do" syndrome. My mom always felt that way after time away.

Now, if you can plan this around a weekend/place that has a race going on...even better! You win too!!!   Sorry, couldn't resist!

Then drop hints you want a bike for your b-day......

There. Total package. My work here is done.

Sorry I don't have much to offer in the line of suggestions but my wife made our 10th (next year) easy for me... She lost her engagement ring earlier this year so I'm going to get her a new one.

I’m going to go with the same ring: A diamond in the middle with a wrap around it with an amethyst (her favorite stone) on both sides and a diamond on the outside of each amethyst.

After giving her 2 engagement rings, I shouldn’t have any problem getting that P3C next year, ya’ think?

Good luck!

I'll pass on #7, she might ask if I got a gift receipt. I've gone the route of jewlery, she doesn't like too much. I'm thinking of having Roses, Strawberries, and Champienge on ice ready for our arrival. Now I'm also thinking about a Kinkade painting (small original) she loves his work, wrapped on her pillow. I plan on having our clothes and everything we will need sent over ahead of time, this will require an assistant. I dont want her to have any suspicsions of anything. I just hope my devious mind is never used for evil.
