Subject: What's the coolest thing you've ever done outside of triathlon?

My husband and I were chatting the other day about the coolest things that we've ever done (or the coolest thing we think the other person has done).  I thought it would be a fun question for BT.

For me, two things:  1) solo motorcycle trip from SLC to British Columbia and back, and 2) Built my twin boys a set of bunkbeds (from scratch) for their birthday.

For my husband: Picked up a 7-10 split as a teenager in a pro-am tournament, and had lots of pro bowlers come up and tell him great job (and he made the local news broadcast).

Wow... good question.

Moving to Taiwan when I didn't really know where it was. (I knew it was in Asia somewhere!)

This led to finding my wife and having 2 daughters.

Winning the provincial high school volleyball championship.

Not quite as long but, 20 years 6 months marriage (almost to the day) and 3 awesome sons.

SCUBA diving in Guam and Puerto Rico.

Riding my motorcycle to Devil's Tower, 900+ miles each way, to camp with some buddies.  Did the return trip in a single day.

Helping roll the worlds longest cigar(New Guinness World Record) while in Puerto Rico, Feb 15, 2007.

There are a bunch of cool things I did when I was a kid, thanks to my dad being in the service, visiting the Great Pyramids, touring most of Europe, living in Saudi Arabia for over a year, but those things I was taken too, as opposed to doing on my own.

At 15 I was traveling back and forth between Europe and the Persian Gulf every 3 months with my younger brother in tow and unassisted.  Kind of a life changing experience.

Cliff jumping on the island of Comino (part of Malta) for a bottle of wine from a local tour operator Oke KoKe, who told his passengers we couldn't do it.  Then sharing that bottle of wine with our Physics teacher.

A lot of things in my youth that I would never change.  As an adult, it's all things tied to my wife and kids.

3 beautiful children.
2 made in UK, the third here in the US.
A decade together with my wife, bridesmaid meets best man at mutual friends wedding... Sounds corny, but a true love story.
Moving your family between continents to follow your dream of living in the US of A is risky but so far has been worth it.

1 masters degree
1 ironman
1 win at the windy city open (squash)
1 trip to Everest base camp

Not in any order of magnitude or difficulty.

Other than raising our two girls to be pretty cool humans....    perhaps rafting down the Tatshenshini and Alsek Rivers for 15 days.  True wilderness in the Yukon, British Columbia and Alaska...   awesome!

Good lord, you guys are freaking AWESOME!  There are some spectacular achievements on here that I'd love to hear about over a glass of wine...

...but the best parts are how many of you are going back to your spouses and kids.  I'm completely new to anything triathlon-related, but this thread has reassured me that this is the right place to be.

Mine aren't anywhere near as interesting, but:  learned to be a fairly impressive shot with rifles and hanguns before learning how to ride a bike; asked Al Gore a question that got him tongue-tied; worked for the FBI; helped get 150 students through the trauma of living in DC during 9/11, the anthrax scare, and the sniper; volunteered at the Pentagon assistance center immediately following 9/11, caring for the families of the victims during the search and recovery process; helped get some kids help they needed, from eyeglasses, dental care, protection from abusers.  Then I married a military guy and moved five times in 7 years, trying to support him as he commanded two squadrons, taking care of the troops and their families. Hoping to add "and faced down a seemingly impossible goal of training for triathlons after never being comfortable with the athletic scene".

The best, by far, is having my two precious daughters.

Finding LKCT.

Having a daughter.

Blowing taps at 2 funerals for WWII vets when I was in high school.

Heading up a local bike club and seeing it go from an obscure collection of Cat 4 riders to a strong cohesive Cat 3 team.

Building 2 houses as a family (when I was young).

Got to go on a few test flights on a 757. The test bed had an open cabin, so we could watch ovet the pilots' shoulders.

Being in the delivery room when my kids were born and being alive and healthy to watch them grow up. Getting to actually deliver my second son. I cannot imagine anything cooler than seeing your children being born.

Raised/raising (it never ends) 5 beautiful, intelligent daughters, delivered 2 of them myself.

Got divorced after 19 years but remain great friends because its best for the kids.

Saved countless lives as a fireman.

Rode the Harley to Sturgis, epic adventure through the Rockies, 4400 miles in 10 days.

Wreck diving in the Jamaica

Ran my first marathon at age 44
