BikerGrrrl - 2012-02-09 5:57 PMI have thick hair, so I prefer a visor.  In particular the Headsweats Supervisor because it has a great elastic band and nice terry cloth liner.  But honestly, I've used a bunch of different running hats and visors.
What she said. Visors are easier with ponytails especially Headsweats. I do wear regular hats when it is colder.

Oysterboy - 2012-02-09 9:06 PM I like when I get my headsweats visor so filled with sweat it drips off the brim like rain.  I like that.

^^^THIS.  Haha, thought I was the only dork who thought this (at least that is what my wife likes to tell me).  I won't wear anything other than a headsweat visor

I wear a hat when it's raining or cooler out. I don't wear anything but sunglasses when it's hot out.

I wear a visor but I feel like a look VERY goofy in it.  But i do it more for comfort than looks.

It nice to throw water right on top of your head on a hot day.

I've been rockin' the visor lately.  Love the Headsweats design.

Or my favorite is the icy cold wet sponge in the cap--feels great.

Oh, man, I am SO trying this during my next race!

+1

During hot races I've dumped ice in my hat at aid stations and put it back on my head.  Works great!

I rock the old school biker cap under my helmet unless it's terribly hot. Just a hold-out from when that's all I wore when I rode as a kid, before helmets were around.

For running, I wear a Nike dry fit cap for many of the reasons already mentioned. It absorbs the sweat, keeps rain off my face, allows me to store ice cubes or a sponge, and keeps the sun out of my eyes. I hate wearing sunglasses when I run. They always get all spattered with sweat and salt.

Was reading in Chris Macormack's book that heavier pro racers (like himself) tend to go with visor in hot situations to allow for extra heat loss "off the top". More heat is generated by moving the heavier racers 165lb+ than the lighter 145lb racers. So energy/sweat management should be considered.

Probably a personal preference though.

Up untill now I have always used a Cap UA in the cooler weather & Nike Dryfit when Its hotter, But I am considering giving a visor a try this spring especially for shorter runs, I am a little thin on top and I am not sure I would want to run a visor for more then an hour or so especially if it was really sunny.

Hat as I can put ice in it during the run in races.

Visors usually have elastic that isn't as adjustable as hats.

I usually stick with the cap. When it's hot I dump a cup of ice in it and when its cold it helps keep the warm in.

Visor when it's not cold and I'm not going to be out in the blazing sun all day.

Hat with it's chilly or in the blazing sun all day or a long time

Yep, I'm in this boat.  Always wear a visor- I've also got a full head of hair to keep my skull from getting burned.

Below 50, brooks HVAC hat. Above 60, Headsweats visor. Between 50-60, whatever stinks less!
