Subject: 24 hour ironman

Hi,

I'm aiming for my first ironman but I'm not sure I can make the 16 hour cut-off.

Is there any ironman race in Western Europe (Spain, France, UK, ...) with a 20 or 24 hour limit. Doesn't really need to be Ironman branded, just have the same distance.

Thanks,

Marco Gouveia

Most IM races have a 17 hour cutoff.  Which segment(s) are you concerned about?

In the US, yes, but he's looking at European ones where 15-16 hrs isn't unusual. Have you searched for non-IM branded events?

Do echo the part about what section(s) are the most concerning? This is still a long time to complete one for someone who can put in a decent number of hours regularly.

Why not focus on building up your athleticism to the point where you don't need 24 hours to finish? There are so many people who have over come disabilities/obesity who are still able to finish sub 17. 17 hours is a really long time--I would say that 99% of the population could finish an ironman in under that amount of time if they trained smarty and consistently.

I agree, instead of assuming you can't make the 17 cut-off, train hard and smart so it won't even be a question of finishing sub 17.

Sub 17 may not even need much "hard" in there. Just smart and consistent over time.
