Subject: Looking for a bike

I am started doing tri's last year, but this year I am really looking forward to doing better; however, I need a better bike. The other problem I have is I am stationed in Germany. My parents live in TExas, so they would pick it up and ship it to me. Does anyone have a cheap one? I have to go my wife's water just broke, looks like I am going to be a new daddy today. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Bike fit is the most important thing when it comes to buying a bike... especially a tri bike.  5'10" is kind of meaningless without other data.  I've seen people 5'10" ride anything from S to L or 52 to 56.  It depends on the bike, it depends on your body type.  What's your inseam?  Are you more legs than torso or are you more torso than legs?  Things like that.

First, congrats on the baby.  I agree with other posters that fit is most important.  Did you mention you had done some sprint tris before?  What were you riding then?  Can you calculate stack and reach of that bike to get started on finding a tri bike that fits?  What's your budget?

I have only done 8 sprint tri's, and I used my mountain bike. I know that sounds pretty stupid, but I was doing mainly for the exercise. Now, I am taking a bit more serious. I went to a local cycle shop here in Germany, and the guy said a 56. He did a bunch of measuring and so forth. Then he brought me too the bikes and I was stunned at the price. Yeah more than my military pay and a family would allow. So as far a budget, well, simply put a good price. I will have to sacrifice a lot of quality for price, but it has to be better than my mountain bike.

I have a trek with some upgrades on it I can send you pics of. I would sell it to you for 260 if you want it. Right now its my trainer bike but I need to get my butt outside so it could be yours. I would recomend a new back tire but other than that its definitely an upgrade from a mtn bike.

Trek alum frame, 105/ultgra mix, water bottle cages, cate eye cadence/speed computer. Let me know!

56 in what bike?  A 56 Cervelo doesn't fit like a 56 Trek which doesn't fit like a 56 Felt which doesn't fit like a 56 Specialized and so on. It's all about stack and reach numbers.
