Total Time = 1h 34m 54s
Overall Rank = 155/308
Age Group = Clydesdale
Age Group Rank = 10/21
Pre-race routine:

Packed up and hit the road.
Event warmup:

Swam about 100 yards.
Swim
  • 12m 53s
  • 656 yards
  • 01m 58s / 100 yards
Comments:

My plan was to avoid the crowds and start off easy and finish with something left. This is what I did. I came out of the water in about 11:30.
What would you do differently?:

I can go harder and faster, but this went exactly according to plan.
Transition 1
  • 03m 43s
Comments:

This is a combination of two transitions, swim/bike and run/bike. The first was very long. Even though I finished the swim in good shape, I was dizzy in the transition and had trouble getting out of my wetsuit and into my shoes without falling over. Also, I felt like I had swallowed a gallon of lake water, which I hadn't noticed during the swim, and considered and rejected a purge.
What would you do differently?:

I'm not sure, but something.
Bike
  • 44m 16s
  • 12.8 miles
  • 17.35 mile/hr
Comments:

I remembered this course being hilly from last year, but suspected it wasn't as hilly as I imagined. I was wrong, it was worse. I don't know how I even finished last year. Hauling my big butt uphill is murder and as usual, I gained ground on the flats and downhills just to lose it big on the uphill sections.
What would you do differently?:

I would do what I always say and never do, lose the baggage. Also spend more time training hills.
Transition 2
  • 03m 20s
Comments:

2 bike/run transitions. The biggest hill came near the end of the bike and I was just in no hurry to run.
What would you do differently?:

Hustle.
Run
  • 30m 39s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 09m 53s  min/mile
Comments:

I held back on the first run, knowing I had the hills on the bike to face again. The second run was just poor. My left hamstring was acting up again and I was dragging that leg and had to walk up some hills. Worse, my plantar fasciitis is back with a vengeance.
What would you do differently?:

I could have pushed it harder, but really, every run for me seems to involve injury or attempts to avoid injury. I've just about given up run training altogether. I'm going to call "The Running Doctor" Monday and see what can be done.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Weight, injury. Lack of run training.

Event comments:

This race beat me down, but I did finish a half hour ahead of last year's time. Also, I managed 3rd place in the contrived Masters Clydesdale division.

The BT tattoo introduced me to RJSuperfreaky and, I believe, ayeong, both of whom passed me on the run like I was standing still. It was great to see you guys. Way to burn up the course!

Great job! You improved your time so much over last year! I am proud of you. You should be too! So we didn't do exactly what we wanted to do, but we are getting there!

Great race --- it was great finally met you on the run leg. I know I finished 16th in my age group out of 36(I think...). I HATE SWIMMING! There..I have said it. My race report will be up once I regain my shocked from my poor swim time yet again. OWS sucks!

Awesome job out there. The hills were definitely killer - my butt's not big, but just dragging anything up those hills was hard. And I think we all got enough transition training in!
