I guess I'm the spartan here.  4 bottles.  Clean after each use.

Some of y'all could be on Hoarders.Wink

I will see your 4 and go with 2 - one for winter biking and one for the gym bag.  When it warms up I will go 2 on the bike and drop the gym

Water is fairly clean and then I dishwash them every couple of weeks if I remember to.

Maybe we should start a poll about endurance drinks and what the old timers used to do

I have two as well.  I keep them in the bottle cages on my bike.  I rinse them out and fill them up before I ride and they stay there until the next time. I only fill them with water though.  I suppose if I were to put something else in there I would just wash them after I ride and put them back.

Also on the 2 side, although I do fill with a variety of things I only really use one during most of the week with the exception of a long run/ride and then it's two.  My hydration belt for running holds the same type of bottles as I use for biking/work

BikerGrrrl - 2012-02-22 12:54 PM

My husband is a biker, so together we've assembled a kitchen cabinet's worth.  Well, two full shelves and the top shelf has my powdered Heed and stuff like that.

My problem is different types of bottles:

  • from very special events, more like souvenirs, will not be tossed
  • throwaways: the cheap kind we can take when riding in areas that are sketchy we don't care if we lose (also bring these on vacations)
  • every day bottles: usually more expensive, insulated, will collect extras if on sale

We cull them occasionally to keep the number of throwaways to a reasonable number, but it's a lot still.

Then, just when you're on top of it, the husband goes to a bike swap and gets a "deal" on bulk bottles.  Sigh.

AND I thought I had a problemWink LOL

I own 4. One is a good insulated one that is my favorite. One is smaller and I like to take it to the pool. The other 2 are just throwaways.

Use it, put it in the dishwasher. Not hard.

Haha well I'm like BikerGrrrl, I have some that are sentimental, some that are junk for traveling, some that are expensive.

Plus I'm lazy so in the midst of IM training they pile up and up and up (see my pic on Page 1). And I'm putting Infinite in one or two of them each ride, so I have to actually wash them. When you ride 3 days a week (1-2 bottles each ride), one of them a LONG ride (requiring 3 bottles on you + 3 more in the cooler in the car)... that's a lot o' bottles.

Awesome - thanks everyone. My wife got a good chuckle out of the responses. I only have 4 water bottles so I'm on the low side. I think I'm going to get a bigger wine rack and use that idea...and more space for wine. Thanks everyone - have a great tri season!

I have a storage bin in the pantry.  Works great.  The bottles do litter the counter a lot because when I throw them in the dishwasher, they have to drip dry.

DM67 - 2012-02-21 11:20 PM Can always store them in the freezer.

That's what I do - fill them about a quarter full of water, throw it in the freezer. Just top off with water and you're GTG.

Yeeeah I have quite the collection as well. Multiplied by 2 since my girlfriend does races as well. We also have our mugs, and glasses from races so we're pretty stocked. Water bottles are always good to have though. I usually just drink water from the Brita so it's an easy grab and go to keep one in the car, use at work, or just keep next to the night stand. I can't leave a cup or glass of water around the house without my cat trying to sneak a sip and spilling it over so the water bottles help in that regard.

we keep all of ours in the fridge.  they're cold and ready to go for either workouts or just daily use.  kids as well for school lunches and whatnot.  I wash them when they are all dirty, dry the outside, fill them from the brita pitcher and back into the fridge.

I boxed up all my unused water bottles that I received on assorted rides and gave them to my sister, who is an elementary school teacher. She gave them to her students as prizes and used them in class demos; she keeps asking me to do more rides so she can get more bottles.

Don't tell me I have a new "stuff" problem coming my way....Surprised

I finally got a handle on ours by culling my husband's collection (that boy hoards ev-er-y-thing) of plastic crap, and I had a shelf dedicated to just our good bottles.  I'm a little weird about plastic drinking bottles and storage containers, so we are down to almost exclusively stainless steel bottles and glass containers.  But I'm thinking that there are going to be frequent situations when using a plastic bottle is my only option...
