Subject: HELP RUNNING SHOES!!

I need help picking out a pair of running shoes. I am going to be running alot as I prepare for my Ironman in July. I am having a hard time picking out a pair of shoes. I need some sort of shoe with stability. Two shoes are below I am looking out. Just not sure if they are made for distance. Any advice would be great.

honestly? find a local running store, go see them to get a running analysis to find out if what sort of shoe you need, and let them give you options in store. you should be able to put them on, take a spin around the block to make sure they feel good or to make sure they do not. they can also give you an estimate of how many miles your shoes should last and if they know you need ones to cover lots of miles they can help you cover that option as well. the only time I would ever get shoes online or without a fitting is if I had one done, and found a second pair online to get on sale as a rotater shoe.

+1...

Try before you buy... Best place to go is a good running shop so you can test out tons of shoes at once.

I went to a local running store and they did not have a size 13 in any of the shoes. They just recommeded I have a stability shoe.

If they didn't carry your size, they should have offered to order them for you !

... make sure you order from somewhere with a generous return policy so you can return them (road runner sports comes to mind) if they don't work out for your feet !

Seriously!  They didn't have size 13?  I wear 13 and almost everywhere I go has lots in that size.  I too wear stability and I wear Brooks Adrenaline GTS 11's.   The new model is Adrenaline GTS 12.  Also I wear Asics 2160's.  Go to Dicks Sporting Goods or any other store that carries a good selection of running shoes and try these on.

I wore the Asics for my marathon last April and most of the training.  I've run a few HM's and ran my HIM in the Brooks.  Both are great shoes.  I typically weigh 195 lbs, no problems thus far.

Of your two choices, only the Asics has stability. Stability shoes are not all the same either. Some have mild stability, some are moderate, and some are maximum. The best selling stability shoes, Asics 21xx and Brooks Adrenaline, have moderate stability. The level of stability you may need is best determined by a good shoe fitter, and by how good the shoes feel to you. Even if your LRS didn't have your size, they still should have been able to do a gait analysis to give you an idea of what should work for you. The Asics you picked is a mild stability shoe, more well suited for racing than as an everyday trainer. If that is the level of stability you need, you may want to consider the Asics 1170. Other options could include the Brooks Ravenna, Nike Lunarglide, and many others. You should consider getting a couple different shoes, one for basic running and one for faster paced training and racing.

I know what your going through, I had the same problem. I needed a mild support shoe for long distance that was light enough to race with. I tried sooooooo many shoes but FINALLY found the best shoe for me, I LOVE them! It's the Asics DS Racer 9. They just came out this month. The size 9 weighs in at only 7.9oz and there are drainage holes in the bottom of the shoe. I got mine at runningwarehouse.com for $100 with free 2 day shipping and free return shipping. I really can't tell you how great these shoes are. Get a pair and see for yourself and if you don't like them (but I know you will) then return them free and get your money back. I have put 158 miles on the Brooks Adrenalin, 300 miles on the Asics Gel DS trainer and many others. I like both of those but the main problem is they are so darn heavy! Especially when you race an IM on a warm day and sweat builds up and you spill water on them. With the DS racer you don't have to worry about them gaining weight with the drain holes there. Good luck and let me know how much you like them if you decide to try them.

Stability Shoe runner here...

I've run in the Brooks Adrenaline's since they were like the 7's or maybe even 6's (they're on the 12's now). Picked up a pair of Asics GT-2160s at my local DSW (Women's shoe store that carries limited selection of men's shoes...mostly dress, some athletic) for ~$18...no kidding. Fit my feet like a glove, and I love them. Also, have a pair of Mizuno Wave Elixir 6, KSwiss blade lights, Saucony Kinvara 2...(though these aren't stability shoes, they were on sale at Dicks and I use them as my running around in kicks)...If you've had a fitting at the local store and know what kind of shoes you need (sounds as if), go to RunningWarehouse or Eastbay or Zappos...all these sites (I believe) will let you sort running shoes by type, meaning you can sort the stability ones out and choose from there..

Thanks for the help..I decided to go with the Acis Gel Ds Trainer 16 model.

I found a good deal, and I did not feel like spending 120 bucks on a pair of shoes.

Thanks again!

Good shoe. I have done 8 triathlons including an ironman 70.3 in them. They have tons of cushion. When your ready for a lighter shoe try the Asics DS Racer 9. It will take 20 or more seconds off your mile from the DS trainer. Good luck.
