After failing last year to get anything in the books, I'll do my best to organize this year.

I know many of us are running either the c-bus half marathon or the flying pig on the May 5th weekend, so that's out.  (plus, it's still really cold in Alum)

May 12 and May 19 look possible (I'm unavailable on the 19, but carry on without me if that is the concensus)

May 26 is Memorial Day weekend.

What are your votes?  I'll try to organize a sprint map and an oly map for your convenience.

Same rules apply as before-- see rules here

(I do give out hugs, though.)

may 12th or the 26th will work for me! I live 10 miles from Alum Creek and can provide burgers and dogs if everyone would like to being a side dish and some beer for a post workout refueling.

I'll play it by ear. I have nothing on the radar as of yet, but you never know.

Ohhhh fun! I would love to get some advice on transitioning (and just about everything else). I really want to show off my new bike too & meet some of you guys. I love hugs!! I love cookouts & I love beer! However I do not like cold water (wussy) so I am not sure how long I will be able to swim, plus that's my weakest area (I just learned how to swim 2 months ago)! I am free every weekend in May, so far. Count me in!

DISCLAIMER:

If you are interested in this informal training day, the rules have now been posted here as written by David tri's: (disregard the link-David does not want you to come over Cry)

Never asked questions (but questions you may have)

Q: How much will this cost me in entry fees?

A: Nothing. This is a fun event organized by me but without any sanctioning by any organization.

Q: I’m pretty fast, what is the first place prize?

A: Uh, nothing. Didn’t I mention this is a free event? If you’re a cute girl I’ll be happy give you a hug. In fact, I’ll give any cute girls a hug weather you take first place or not.

Q: Can I get hand ups on the bike?

A: No. There will be no hand ups at the event. Also, if you think there will be aid stations on the run you’re going to be disappointed. Carry what you think you will need with you on the B/R.

Q: Will the police be out on the bike course directing traffic?

A: No. Again, this is a free event; it’s not put on by a race company. You must obey all traffic laws while on the bike. This means stopping at all stop signs/traffic lights. This is a fun event. This is a training event. Be careful on the bike. This event is not worth getting T-boned over.

Q: I don’t want to swim. Can I still come out and bike and run with the rest of you?

A: Sure. Do whatever portion of the event you’d like. Do any distance you’d like. It makes no difference to me.

Q: I want to do this event as a relay team with some drinking buddies. Is that ok?

A: See above answer. Just don’t expect a first place hug from me when you’re done (unless you’re all cute girls).

Q: Where do I pick up my race packet and finishers shirt?

A: For the last time-THIS IS A NON SANCTIONED, FREE EVENT. No race packet, no shirt, no timing chip, no support. Get it?

Q: I’m a cute girl. I’d like to just come by and cheer you all on. Is this ok?

A: Sure. I’ll even give you a hug if you want one.

Q: I don’t want to do the event, but I would like to volunteer that morning to watch gear and keep (unofficial) time for you all. Can I help?

A: Sure! That’d be great. Just let me know here on this thread. I do want someone at the beach to watch all our stuff while were swimming and running. I’m looking for volunteers. If no one is able to do it and I can’t find anyone, then I’ll stay at the beach while you all race.

Q: I don’t want to do the event but I would like to meet up with my BT friends afterwards at the barbeque. Can I still come to just that?

A: You bet. Racers, bring your families. We’ve got two kids and a big backyard. So there will be other little ones for them to run around with.

Q: I’ll be there. What’s your address?

A: As you let me know you’re coming I’ll PM you with my address and phone number. I don’t want my business all out on the net like that.

Q: I’m a cute guy. Can I have a hug?

A: Not from me.

Q: Please?

A: No.

There's an organized ride at Alum Creek on Memorial Day weekend call the Corbin Hasting Memorial Ride benefitting SID Network of OH. The ride is "free" but cost $35 donation or something like that to ride. The ride is not part of any race organization. The person to contact is John Hastings with Hastings Endurance Racing.

Well, I don't know how you guys have organized this in the past but I would be willing to host the after event at my house if nobody else can...or wants too? I live in Worthington (nearest cross is High & Worth. Galena). I don't know anyone (except I met Brue once @ OSU) but my hubby & I have always been notorious for having great parties & we always invite new people to our parties....big yard, big grill, playground for kids, small house, but we have 3 showers for anyone who REALLY needs a rinse off! Let me know! I am still open every weekend that month, hope we can pull something together

Not finalized yet...  I think it's narrowed down to the 19th or 26th.  IMO, I would steer clear of Memorial Day weekend.  (And I think I can wiggle out of my commitment for that day.)

Let's get the date set.  I'll try to set up a poll.

Poll is up in a different thread.  Please vote only if you are REALLY interested in coming so we can serve the most people possible.

So how far is the swim portion of this fun event? I am a pretty weak swimmer (just learned how in December) & I am not sure how far I can go. My husband wants to join in too! He is a better swimmer then me

Its all beach so you can get out when you want to get out.  I believe that down and back is about 1,200ish yds.

The 'bike course' is one lap around Alum creek and is 12 miles.  Wanna go more?  Just go around again.

The 'run course' can vary- we can set up a 5k with a turn around but I believe that if you go out the entry, on the rd and then over the damn and back it's 5 miles.  I'll have to check my logs tho.

Well, it looks like the majority says the 19th. We will go with that date. Rain or shine unless it's miserable outside. Let's meet at 8, in the water by 8:30 and depending on distances biked/run, finish up by 11 with plenty of time to change clothes and fire up a grill.

Distances and paths will be posted later.
