Here's what the 50mm look like on my road bike. Right now it's the next to last posting in the thread.

By next season some company will have a new design that claims to be 20% more aero than anything on the market now and we will have another waiting list..just an endless cycle. How much more aero can we get really?

Mine was the same; 7 to 10 business days.  Ordered them last Tuesday, so hopefully the week of the 21st.  Not that it matters for any races, but now I'm like a kid waiting for Christmas!  Also reading up on Powertap, since I threw that in at the last minute.

I think I'm seeing the benefits of power-related training already, did the Trainerroad thing over the last few months, and riding outside felt very strong compared to last year.

WHat are you doing for a cassette? My training wheels have the 11-28 cassette that came on the bike but was thinking of trying a diferent ratio cassette. And where did you buy from? How about valve extenders? I see boyd has some as coming soon on the website.

Woot woot!  Just got the email, they've shipped!  Are they here yet?!?

Was thinking about the cassette this weekend.  I have an 11-something on an older wheel, maybe 11-25.  Will start with that and see how things go.  Haven't climbed any hills with the TT bike, so I'm not sure where I want to go with the big sprocket.

For valve extenders, I was hoping to not need them, though not sure if they make tubes with stems long enough for 85 mm.

Are they here yet?  How about now?

GOOD FOR YOU! Mine still have not shipped but i am patiently waiting. Checked my lbs the other day and the longest they had was an 80mm stem and it was $9 per tube. At that price I can buy a set of extenders and just use the shorter stems.

Gotta put some pics up when you get your new wheels mounted!

They arrived yesterday, packaged somewhat minimally, but arrived unscathed.  Looking around for valve extenders now, I came to the same conclusion, 80 mm is the longest that seem to be out there.  An LBS has some that I'll run up to tonight or tomorrow.

Now I ordered a powertap hub, and that's what I got.  But no documentation of any kind; warranty, instructions, etc.  Instructions I'm OK with, since Cycleops has them on their site.  However it looks like this model (Pro +) comes with a battery cap removal tool; kind of a big wrench.  Not in the box.  WTH?

Emailed Boyd last night, waiting on a reply...  But the unit does seem to have a battery, since I could pair it with my 310XT.

Hopefully will get this beast out on Saturday, will definitely post pics!

HUSKRFJ, I don't know where you are, but I'm in the 2 day shipping range from them, and UPS was on time.

Heard back from Boyd himself on the battery tool; it isn't included when they buy the hub, but apparently Saris will send one gratis if requested.  However he stated that many people find better results just using a piece of rubber sheeting, like a jar opener thingy, to get the cap off.

So score another one for good customer service.

I lost the tool when I was moving and used a rubber strap wrench that I got at Harbor Freight for 3 bucks. It was actually a set of two for three bucks. Works great!

Mine just shipped. I had Boyd put a new Pro+ PT on the wheel I bought last year. And I bought a wheel bag. Can't wait!

I told him there's been  lot of posts on BT and he said that business is very busy with people ordering 58/85 sets. Good for him, nice to support a quality mom-and-pop shop.

I also agree that Boyd has one of the best customer service around.  My wheels came in "untrue" but being only a day before my HIM I decided to ride it still.  I rode it to my fastest bike speed (mph) in any race.

The wheels are now on its way back to me with Boyd covering the shipping both ways.  If you ever dealt with Nicole, you know she's the bomb.

Looks great! Love the new Powertap! And I put latex tubes and Pro 3's on too, and they were a b*tch to get on, especially with making sure they didn't pinch the latex.

Looks good!  Did you ask for the subdued decals?  I forgot, but I'm OK with the white ones.

Also had a heck of a time with getting the tires on, Vittoria Rubino Slicks, and they aren't new.  Also found out about the whole valve-extender thing; ended up going with extenders where you pull the valve core out and put the extender between the tube and the valve.

I'm screwed if I flat in a race, hopefully that doesn't happen...

YEs I asked about the Ghost decals, which are not widely available yet but if you ask boyd will make it happen!

I got some cheap topeak extenders on amazon that seem to work well so far. You don't have to remove valve core and they seem to work well.

Its because the clearance between the rear chainstays is so narrow.

I have seen threads on here and the other site that people with transitions have made them work.

Someone with a transition also mentioned working with wheelbuilder and the made some special cuts to make his cover work.

Reviving the thread; for anyone who recently got these wheels, what are your thoughts?

Received my Boyd carbon clinchers in mid March, and I have about 200 miles on them in both windy and calm conditions, over mostly hilly terrain.  85 mm rear, 58 mm front, with Vittoria Rubino Slick tires at about 110 psi.

Since this is also a new bike for me (Fuji D6) it's tough to compare the aero advantage, but the whole bike vs the road bike with Mavic Ksyrium wheels certainly feels faster.  On some local hills I've hit 44 mph, where with the other bike I've only gotten to 40.  One day I'll do a one-after-the-other test, so the conditions will be the same.

Cross winds were a bit interesting at first, but I think I'm getting used to it, it doesn't seem as bad anymore.  If anything I'll swap out the front wheel if race weather looks really windy.

They feel plenty stiff, and are still true and round.  But then carbon doesn't bend like metal.  I guess if some spokes really stretched you could get out of true.

On the down side; is it me, or do non-metallic rims suck for braking?  I'm using the Boyd-provided pads, and I knew going in that it was an issue.  For racing I'm not too concerned, as unplanned stops/slowdowns are not that frequent.  But for training rides on roads I'd like a little better braking action.

Thus far, I'm very happy with the decision, and will give them a nice test this Sunday at a sprint race.

So I'm curious what other recent Boyd owners have found with their wheels.

I don't believe they make me a lot faster, but I was definitely faster in a time trial with them than I was without them, and also in a duathlon. How much of that is training and how much of that is the wheels, I can't say.

Yes, carbon wheels and pads do not brake as well. Even worse when they are wet. And they can heat up on long downhills. Anticipate it, or you'll be in for a real 'oh sh*t' experience

I also have a Wheelbuilder wheelcover and if nothing else it sure looks great!

For those of you that use boyd wheels with the 50 / 85 setup do you use these as your racing wheels only or also training wheels?

Should that setup only be used for racing?  If your using them for training how have they held up?

I'm looking at getting a set and trying to figure out if I should go 50 / 85 or just all 50 if using for training too.
