Sunny
Total Time = 7h 30m
Overall Rank = 199/767
Age Group = 55-59
Age Group Rank = 6/24
Pre-race routine:

Got up at 5:00. Already packed, so just loaded stuff in the car and hit the road from the hotel at 5:15. Stopped at Starbucks for Oatmeal and a coffee. Got to the race location by 5:45. I would not have wanted to arrive any later as the close parking lot was already nearly full. As it was, I was about the 5th or 6th person on the rack, which was fine for set up purposes. At my oatmeal, banana, half-bagel about two hours from my group start. Ate a gel 20 minutes from race start.
Event warmup:

Very little. Felt sluggish. Cold. Ran a bit, got in the water, but that was it. Totally insufficient and I need to do more in the future. But I just wasn't feeling good.
Swim
  • 24m 15s
  • 1320 yards
  • 01m 50s / 100 yards
Comments:

Totally crappy swim. Never got comfortable. Struggles the entire way. Don't know why but my heart rate/respiration was elevated the entire way. Had to use breast stroke for a major portion of the distance just to stay moving. Crawl was too stressful.
What would you do differently?:

No oepn water swims this time of year in Wa.State, so I had no practice in my wetsuit. I need open water swim practice in the suit and I especially need better conditioning and workouts under stress.
Transition 1
  • 02m 38s
Comments:

A little slow. My wet suit got stuck and then pulled off my timing chip. I tried to put it back on but I had it backwards. Ugh. Finally got it.
What would you do differently?:

I usually tape my timing chip....will do next time.
Bike
  • 1h 06m 32s
  • 24 miles
  • 21.64 mile/hr
Comments:

Paced myself well on bike as I was worried about blowing up on the run due to the heat. Had a very solid ride and enjoyed the course. Ate gels and drank as needed.
What would you do differently?:

Perhaps a little harder push, but this might have hurt my run.
Transition 2
  • 01m 50s
Comments:

A little weak on the transition, but I got in and out in reasonable time. No issues
Run
  • 43m 48s
  • 6 miles
  • 07m 18s  min/mile
Comments:

Very hot. Not used to running in the sun but did OK and basically cranked out a steady run despite the heat.
What would you do differently?:

DK
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around. Stood in lake to cool legs after race. NICE!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Inconsistent training. Need more swimming under stress, more race pace running and biking.

Event comments:

A very race with very solid competition. A great incentive to keep the training up over the winter. I will do it again if possible.
