one month to go...  It's hard finding hills around here to train on when I'm looking at a 5 mile climb at the beginning of the bike....  ACK!

If I'm reading the map correctly that is a 237 ft climb over the 5 miles. Though a steady incline, I don't think that should cause you any problems if you are having a hard time finding hills to train on. Just ride lots.

yeah.  It's mentally hard for me to picture 237 in 5 miles.  The elevation graph makes it look more intimidating than it probably is.  I've been trying to go through my routes to mimic it, but our "hills", if we can find them, are short in length.  I'm riding (and running) whatever hills we have though...

Two weeks and we are out there.

Getting excited.

Water shows to be about 72.  Just a perfect temp.

And some weather forecasts show it will be in the mid to upper 70's that day and over cast.  Of course that will change a million times in the next two weeks.

I'm ready to get my backside handed to me and have a blast doing it.

Here's my Garmin file from the race last year. There are a few little sections that seemed a bit steep, but nothing that bad. The second half of the course is very fast back into Burlington.

Thanks, this helps a lot. I'm still trying to picture that climb in the first 5 miles. Not worried about the short steep climbs in the middle.

About a week and a half. Who's getting excited, and who's getting nervous.

Not too nervous about the race...b/c know I don't have a chance to win anything.  But I am nervous about the whole trip as I have never done a race this far from home and making sure I have everything packed.  To top it off I am making a whole vacation out of it up in the NE so got a lot of stuff to plan other than the race.

I am super excited about some cooler temps tho.  Been training in the 100s down here so 65-85 range sounds magical!

I'm getting excited for the race. Cut my foot pretty bad on a clam in a race two weeks ago and today is the first day I could run without pain.  I'm kind of pissed because the restaurant at my hotel sucks, but then again....it sure will be nice to roll out of my own bed and drive five miles to the race start! Love Burlington, VT.

I hear ya on both counts. I leave Sunday and am making stops in Richmond, VA and New Jersey. Then my parents are coming up to VT with me for the weekend. So I have a lot to pack for too. Temps haven't been in the 100s here, but the humidity is always high, so the cooler weather will be much nicer. Hopefully the bad weather holds off. Predicted shows possible rain but so far out that can change a number of times leading up to the race.

Three days to go! Hope everyone is feeling well and looking forward to a good race. It should be a bit cooler than last year, but there could be some showers. Good luck to all!
