Comments:

What can I say? The swim was a joke.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Transition 1
  • 05m 53s
Comments:

After the botched swim and running into freezing rain, it was hard for me to get excited about the rest of the race. I found my bike, saw that my transition bag was SOAKED from heavy rain, and at that point pretty much lost any interest in going fast.

So I just sat back, lit a cigarette and made myself a martini. Joking - I took a lllooonnnggg time getting out of T1.
What would you do differently?:

Oh, I probably wouldn't have fussed so much with socks or a jacket. But I do have to say that the jacket was a godsend on the bike split.
Bike
  • 27m 16s
  • 6.5 miles
  • 14.30 mile/hr
Comments:

I was slow because I didn't care.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing....roads were dangerously wet so I'm not going to be an ass and crash.
Transition 2
  • 04m 32s
Comments:

Well, since I took so long in T1, I thought at I would at least lend some continuity to the suck that were my times and make this a long transition, too. What the heck...
What would you do differently?:

Not sit and stare at my wet running shoes, my wet green hat with attached red beard. Probably not tied my jacket around my bike stem (although I really like the jacket and didn't want it to "grow legs and walk away." I probably would have not dug-through my soaked transition bag looking for a Gu that I didn't need.
Run
  • 36m 58s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 11m 55s  min/mile
Comments:

The course was flooded with water. There was mud all over the trails from the rain runoff. I tried to doge these as much as I could.
What would you do differently?:

Probably made sure my shoes were in a water proof bag back at transition, with duck tape over the holes to minimize water leakage.
Post race
Warm down:

I ate a pancake.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not giving a crap about my speed. Disinterest. Oh, and I'm still overweight.

Event comments:

This race had amazing volunteers. I was seriously impressed! I'm sure it would have been a fun race had it not been raining and freezing.

Pool swim
Suit: Tri Singlet
Course: Snake swim. The lanes were ridiculously narrow, and all the yahoos seeded themselves wrong, resulting in major congestion and head-on collisions. At one point I saw three men heading wide heading one way into two men wide the other. They all collided and...well...it just went on and on. Funny thing was their was a man playing the bagpipes throughout the entire swim split, so all of this mayhem was set to bagpipe music. It was like something you would see in a triathlon mockumentary. There were three people heel to hand in front of me so I didn't chance passing them lest I have a head-on collision. I just sat back and swam a leisurely 300m.
