I had a Jones Fracture in my left foot about 7 or 8 years ago. Was in the boot for 8 weeks, crutches for 6. Once I was off crutches I could ride the trainer, but no standing.

Obviously, YMMV.

I broke my 5th metatarsal in 2010.  No bike for 1.5 months.  No running for 3 months.  I did drop 30sec/100m off my average swim pace though!

It's going to depend on your fracture.

I'm out right now.  I fractured my 4th metatarsal AND (this is the bigger issue), damaged my Lisfranc joint.  I'm having surgery on Thursday to repair it.  2 weeks with a splint, then 8 weeks with a hard cast and then a walking boot of some sort depending on how well I'm healing.  No swimming or trainer for me.  No running until the screws get removed post-recovery...so it'll be months.

Hopefully your injury is less involved than mine!

Broke my 5th metatarsal in sept stepping on a piece of tree limb (small but sufficient). I was in a boot for 6 weeks. Then started back with water running, some swimming; took a while before my foot felt ok in a bike shoe. Started running gently after 2.5 months, in earnest a month later. last week i ran my first half marathon (5.5 months after the break) and did fine. Knee was more a problem (from knee surgery a year ago) than foot. I found that the recovery comes pretty quickly, although it didn't necessarily feel quick when going through it.

good luck

Robin

I fractured my foot Jan 31. I am off the crutches as of yesterday. I am still in the boot. I Fractured my foot on a Tuesday while running out of town. I flew home Thursday got the cast put on Friday I rode my trainer Saturday. I went to a Dr out of town who prescribed a boot to immobilize it until I returned home. My Dr at home put it in a cast and put me on crutches. I mounted a cleat to the bottom of the boot (took it apart and bolted through the plastic base) then strapped the cast and everything in the boot. I had to lower my seat in order to get on and off the bike. I did not experience any pain at all (in my foot) while riding the trainer almost every day. I would say try this and see how it feels if it hurts don't do it. I also did not try to stand at all. I still am not at a point where I will stand out of the saddle, but my recovery is going very well. I think it has to do with staying active without pushing it. Good Luck.

Kevin
