Shawnee Mission, Kansas

KC Corp Challenge
Sunny
Total Time = 16m 52s
Overall Rank = 5/820
Age Group = M30-34
Age Group Rank = 2/130
Pre-race routine:

Fed breakfast to Tatum (10 month old daughter) while my wife ran the women's race. Frantically looked for a place to use the rest room.
Event warmup:

Once my wife was done, I chatted with her for a bit and then did some heavy jogging for 5-10 minutes.
Run
  • 16m 52s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 05m 25s  min/mile
Comments:

At the first mile marker, I was at the back of the lead pack of about 12-15. I heard from the split guy that the next closest to me was 5 seconds back. Picked off almost all everybody up the hills. I was in 3rd heading to the line, but 2 caught me at the tape - one in my age group.
I actually finished 6th, but the race winner didn't check-in in time and was a scratch. He ran anyway and won by a ton.
Splits:
Mile 1 - 5:11
Mile 2 - 5:34
Finish - 5:37

What would you do differently?:

Finish harder so two people wouldn't have caught me.

Nice race! I love the pre-race routine. Did you and Tatum stay clean during breakfast? Better luck next time in the sprint finish.

We stayed somewhat clean. She ate her cereal pretty well, but it's the bottle that usually causes the problem. She chugs it until she can't hold any more and the starts spewing and coughing! When her face gets red, I know to take the bottle from her. However, I'm not always fast enough!

I work for DST and I live in Lenexa. I take it you live in the KC area. Where do you live and who do you work for?

Are you running the Olathe Marathon this morning? I'm really new to this site, but when I click on "My Races" it shows who else is running, and your name shows up. Anyway, that's why I'm up this early - getting my fluids.
