Met her at a charity event last December. She is just the nicest person. She talked a little about triathlon, but more about her charities and how important it is to use her platform for helping others. She does a lot for cancer research and awareness, and when I told her I was a cancer researcher she gave me a giant impromptu hug.

Name another athlete or sport where people are this genuine and accessible.

Not exactly a "triathlete celebrity" but today I was swimming laps a few lanes down from Forbes most influential athlete, Nascar driver Jimmie Johnson.  He is no Michael Phelps but was holding a pretty steady 1:45ish pace!

Ohhhhh my husband would be so jealous!!!!! And a decent pace too! I was in Charlotte a few weeks ago and brought back a fender from Jimmie's car for my DH (long story)

The other person I was replying to in my tweet saw him out on his road bike in Charlotte two days ago.  Looks like #48 might be a lurking triathlete!

TheClaaaw - 2012-03-18 11:26 AM Besides scheduling my year based on races I want to do, I am waiting for the release of her US book tour schedule, assuming there will be one. I will take my daughter out of school for a day if need be, we will road trip wherever we need to go. Since we're less than 4 hours from NYC, Philly, DC, or Pittsburgh, I figure it shouldn't be too hard to do, but I really want to have my daughter meet her in person.

Go here to see the tour schedule:

Down at Disney this year during the Marathon week - staying at Animal Kingdom Lodge and ran into Ethan Zohn and Jenna Mosca of Survivor- found later that they were part of the race. Totally random and then surreal when it comes out Ethan is battling cancer about 30 days later..

Big fan of Chrissie's (really, who isn't) and my wife and I got some nice pictures with her at the Timberman athlete dinner.  But I paid a price for finishing 1 1/2 hours before my wife did at the race:  CW wasn't giving out finisher medals yet when I finished, but she was there with the medal for my wife's finish.  Major class act, all the way around.

(Just remembered the other cute story from Timberman:  My wife was actually racked directly opposite Chrissie on the next rack.  She wanted to get a picture of Chrissie there before the race, but didn't want to be obnoxious...so she pretended to be taking pictures of her own bike with Chrissie just happening to be in the background.  Subtle, much?)

Kevin_MS - 2012-03-18 8:03 AM My CW story...(certainly not trying to "one-up" the OP by any means either) I ran the KS 70.3 in 2010. CW won the women's race and finished like 2.5 hrs ahead of me. When I came across the line, she was still there handing out medals to finishers. I got mine from her, got a hug, and a pic. The best part though was that she took her medal from winning the race off from around her neck and gave it to my 9 yr old son and told him to "take after his daddy" and run the race when he gets old enough... Class act all the way around in my book!

MY CW story...

I did the Columbia MD Olympic race a couple of years ago and she raced also. I was excited all weekend and kept wondering if I'd see her. She finished ahead of me (um.... because the pro wave had an early start........) and as I crossed the finish line she was handing out medals. I ran right past her. Never even saw her.
