Subject: RE: Yanti is gonna be an IronMAN!!!

Posted this update in Tri Talk too ... and yes, I am gonna be an Ironman. Once I save the money over the next 5 years for another one, or become a famous author, whichever comes first.

Man. I love you ALL. I had a great day out there (more or less) ... actually within 20km of bike finish with an hour to go when the SAG wagon piglet following me pulled the plug. Absolutely the right call. Can't recall when I got to the med tent but core temp was 34C even though I'd already been wrapped in blankets and mylar in the truck. Brrr

Lots of adventure and great stories, but just a couple highlights:

The SAG wagon guy took a picture of my pace booty while he was following me. (It's a great pic, not so much the booty, but lone rider on long road, very cool poster-like stuff).

One of my race mantras is Piglet. Burger. Piglet. Burger. Strangely enough I found myself (a long time later) seated at a McDonald's waiting for the shuttle to the finish area (45km away from transition area). A very nice British piglet approached me and said could he do anything for me, and I said yes please, I would like a cheeseburger meal and your company. I got both

When I finally got back to my apartment, a big orange cat darted in and refused to leave. Loved being petted and was great company until I tried to make him leave.

Again, THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU and a big {MELON PRESS} to all.

Yanti - I would not have wanted to be the one to pull you off the bike - me thinks your spunk gave them a run for their money as you did to the course I have no doubt.

I just have one quesiton - how does one get hypothermia in Australia? I know it's fall there but was it that cold? Next time my friend it will be yours!

I propose a collection from all lovers of MellonPresses to raise funds to get our friend to her next IM ! All in favor?

Soooo sorry you DNF'd.  But just being able to line up at the start line having done all it takes to get there is amazing in my books.  Your attitude is truly humbling and inspiring.

Glad you're not beating yourself up about DNFing. You absolutely deserve to be proud of yourself. I have NO doubt you'll be back at the start and kicking it to the finish next time! And I'll happily pitch in for next time if that'll help you get there sooner. You're a real inspiration.

Ditto. I think we could shorten that 5 year time frame significantly.

Yanti lives in Jakarta Indonesia where it's 90 degrees plus everyday and the lows are still upper 70's, this is the type of weather she gets to train in.....today the high in Melbourne is 46 degrees - I'm not a doctor but would guess when the body is use to training in weather that is 45 - 50 degrees hotter on a daily basis the body would have a hard time adjusting that fast?

Love your idea to help her get to her next one!

I'll kick in $100.    Who wants to be keeper of the funds?  All Yanti has to do is pick the next oppurtunity.

Since I proposed the idea - I'd be happy to be keeper of the funds. Maybe set up something on paypal?

And better yet, does anyone know anyone whose got some clout with IM peeps? Come on the woman moved out of the country to care for her ailing parents and look all she does here to support all of us Triathlete's! I propose a campaign to get her a Kona spot!

IRONMAN is currently doing a "Kona Inspired" thing where you can post a 90 second video saying what inspired you to get into Tri's.... 8 people will be picked for a spot to compete in Kona.

http://ironman.com/mediacenter/ironman-announces-new-program-that-allows-athletes-to-share-their-stories-and-for-the-endurance-community

I would think that if enough people submitted videos supporting Yanti (whom I don't even know, but any single person evoking this much support on this board HAS to be worth it), that they'd almost HAVE to give her a spot.

Yanti...never been prouder. True character gets reveiled during hard times. Your class and humor right after DNF shows what a truly special person you are, and the incredible support you are getting in this website just reinforces that notion. Hopefully you will do another one sooner, but my goal is to do IMFL in 2015, so put it in your calendar...I will need your pace booty to get me through it.

IMFL is 100% sold out and also pretty cold in the morning. Ironman Louisville is still open and is usually nice and warm/hot. In fact, it's so hot that I don't think it has ever been wetsuit legal. Cozumel also still has slots available.

I figured most of them are sold out and it would require a chairty spot in any of the races.  IM Louisville is still in driving distance though.

All of you have really touched me and inspired me, and I will do my best to get back to each one of you who has responded to the multiple Yanti threads, PMed me, inspired me, FBed me, e-mailed me, texted me etc. I am deeply humbled. The last few days have been a tremendous experience.

Unfortunately, the Kona Inspired contest rules state:

"3) Eligible Persons. Each individual entering the Contest (each, an “Entrant&rdquo, at the time of entry: (a) must be at least 18 years old; (b) must be a U.S. resident domiciled in any U.S. state or the District of Columbia;"

I am sure that is for legal/tax reasons, but I am not currently a U.S. resident actually domiciled there (I could make a case for being a California resident, but clearly not for being domiciled there!). I can send the media director as well as the Kona information person e-mails asking for clarifications or exceptions, but the rules are pretty clear and comprehensive.

Charity slots are another possibility, but they go for an average of $40,000 and I think this year with Lance almost certainly going that the auction prices will be considerably higher.

There's a chance for me to get into IM Western Australia as I have a contact who may be able to help whom I e-mailed tonight.

Again ... I am overwhelmed and definitely not deserving of all this. I have had a joyously fun trip and experience and I can't thank you enough.
