Comments: Went into the race on a poor nights sleep and with a heavyish cold just started on the Saturday. Nose running and some sneezing on the drive to the event. Not ideal for my first race but some things just happen and you have to get on with them. My son ran with me for the whole race which definately helped keep my pace up a little higher than it would have been. I had to stop at 6k and take off my shoe to rearrange my sock as i had been having a problem with my little toe rubbing since 4k and i could feel it starting to blister. My other little toe was also starting to rub but i figured that it would have to look after itself as it was annoying me that all the people i had passed were now running by me whilst i re-tied my shoe. I put this down to using a pair of socks that i haven't trained in before. 'Nothing new on race day' will stick in my mind more strongly now.doh! The last k felt quite difficult at times as i seemed to slip out of my rythm once or twice and cobbles are horrible to run on. I wish that i did not have the cold as it did mess with my breathing a little. What would you do differently?: Wear all the kit that i usually use! Wear shorts as it was warmer than i expected. Warm down: walk to race village What limited your ability to perform faster: My cold. Not quite 'man flu' but you know what i mean. Event comments: good event, well run and beginner friendly. I will be attending this again. Last updated: 2012-03-10 12:00 AM
