Total Time = 2h 57m 50s
Overall Rank = 1986/2673
Age Group = 25-29
Age Group Rank = 152/173
Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 4.30, had a couple of bananna's for breakfast while attempting too wake up!
Event warmup:

Not much of a warm up, just a 3km walk too transition and a quick dip in the ocean.
Swim
  • 41m 32s
  • 1500 meters
  • 02m 46s / 100 meters
Comments:

No surprise here but the swim wasnt that fun, I knew I could swim the distance but it wasnt going too be at anything other then dead slow. I ended up a minute over my expected time which I was happy with considering Im sure I swam an extra 100 or so meters!!
What would you do differently?:

Learn too swim/ spend more time in the pool
Transition 1
  • 04m 7s
Comments:

Bit of a long run from the beach too t1, at least compared too my previous races.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing really, plenty of haste without rushing and forgetting something
Bike
  • 1h 15m
  • 40 kms
  • 32.00 km/hr
Comments:

I was quite happy with how I handled the bike. I attacked the first couple of hills and deceided too try maintain pace. I did pretty well at that, overtaking more people then was overtaken, which is always a secret goal of mine on the bike. I averaged around 37km/hr over the first 20km, slowing down too about 30km/hr too try and save some energy for the hills at the end/the run. I didnt handle the ascents at the end as well as I would have liked but I came 5 minutes under my target time so all in all I was quite happy!
What would you do differently?:

I need too spend more time on the bike, thou my biggest problems are the slipping seatpost, saddle comfort/ fit in general.
Transition 2
  • 01m 52s
Comments:

Didnt hit the lap button on my 310 in time so my transition time was a little faster then actually, but only by 30seconds or so. I also sat down too chuck my shoes on. with socks.
What would you do differently?:

Stand up for the running shoes, besides that not much.
Run
  • 54m 40s
  • 10 kms
  • 05m 28s  min/km
Comments:

I screamed out of transtion and averaged about 5.05 for the first 4km. I then slowed down as I was over heating abit but it was nothing some water couldnt fix. The climbs were the big killa for my overall time but it was still 6 minutes faster then I was aiming for so I have no right too complain!
What would you do differently?:

Ive been slack since my first marathon last august so my pace was alot slower then I would have prefered but thats what I get for being slack!
Post race
Warm down:

Some stretching, a massage and a walk back too the apartment I was staying at.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of constint training. Ive learned this lesson before but it seems I have forgotten

Event comments:

I beat my target time (3 hours) dispite my lack of swimming skills and general lack of training, but im still pleased with how my first olympic distance tri went. My biking is definitly my strength at the moment due too my lack of running and rock-style swimming but hopefully I can even them all up for my next race at the carins half!
If you can get entry (it sells out quite quick) mooloolaba is a great race.
