Pre-race routine:

Woke up feeling really congested and really didn't feel like eating anything. Took a hot shower and had some hot tea which helped a little.
Event warmup:

Easy 1 mile jog along the course plus some stretching.

Comments:

I started out way too fast with my first half mile at a 5:40 pace. I tried slowing down but not enough and not quickly enough. By mile 2 I was struggling and not in control of my pace. Even though I did eventually slow down enough, by then it was too late and I couldn't recover. Over the last mile, I just wanted the race to be over.
What would you do differently?:

Not run when sick and not start out so fast.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Strep throat the weekend before and a cold this weekend plus the humidity and starting out too fast. If I had not preregistered I probably would have skipped this race.

Event comments:

I'll probably do this race in the future if I'm looking for a smallish 5K close to home in late March. Very well organized.
