Pre-race routine:

Arrived early at CFH. Received start time and t-shirt. Scoped out pool, stairs to bike area / track. Talked with others.
Event warmup:

None. Couldn't warm up for swim due to earlier heats.

Six swimmers at a time. In-water start. Pool was a little choppy. Stayed on a black line, so no problem staying straight.
What would you do differently?:

Could have pushed a little harder.

Old people were standing in the way. Had to shoo them away. Shoes were a little difficult to get on (Merrells with speed laces, no socks).

Resistance on these bikes is manual and not connected to the computer. Therefore, I used the lowest setting. Bike computer only went up to 130 RPM. Was not clear whether pedaling faster than 130 would result in a faster time. I pegged it at 130 in order to maximize speed but save my legs.
What would you do differently?:

Clearly this was a bad strategy. Should have pedaled faster than 130 RPMs. This would have won the race.

Had to work hard weaving in and out of people on the run. Overall good pacing. Overall pretty well executed given my run fitness at the time.
What would you do differently?:

Could have started my kick a little sooner than the last lap.

Walked a bit on the inside of the track. Stretched.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Flawed bike strategy. Could have pushed a bit harder on swim, bike, and run.

Event comments:

First of all, the staff and race volunteers at CFH were top notch. They were friendly and answered all questions. Amazing that they hold this race and that it goes as smoothly as it does with the club open to members. Results were hand tabulated so you had no idea how it was going until long after you were done. There was a long wait for results. We sat on the floor in one of the studios while they gave out the awards. I received a certificate and $10 Sheetz gift card for 2nd overall.
