Thanks all...very insightful.  I knew it was possible, but did realize it was quite this percentage that pulled it off.  One other thing is apparent from the poll results:  Athletes who DNF don't respond to surverys

I've run a marathon before an attempt at an IM and I'm glad. The unknown of it is out of they way, which is always my biggest fear.
