I have four kids and I never stopped with any of them. My wife is ultra supportive so that makes it easy and I plan my training around them so I dont miss a thing.

My little guy is 2 1/2 and my first tri since my HIM in 2008 is in June.  I ran and swam throughout my pregnancy; I actually did a du when I was 5 months pregnant, but the bike was a bit ... weird as my belly was in the way!  I ran fairly soon after delivery, but stuck to running races and bike rides only because I didn't make the time to get to the pool.

Working full time and single parenting it for awhile (husband is in the Army and is out of town for another few more months) we're just now getting on a good schedule.

They key is time management and quality workouts.  OH, and a bike trainer and jogging stroller.  No more 'junk' miles for me; every workout has a purpose.

I started training again when my daughter hit 5 months.. this was January. Plan to get some good races in this summer so hopefully I will be ready.

My baby girl is 3 months old now (born in December) and I'm still not back to training regularly.  I just don't have the energy for it.  I'm really hoping to do a tri in August or September.

I'm a guy.  Our son, 2nd kid, was born at noon on a Thursday, all were discharged around 5pm Friday, and I raced a sprint on Saturday morning.

My wife is pretty awesome, she told me to go and race since we'd already paid for it.  I did three more tri's that summer and PR'd a fall marathon.  Couldn't have done any of that without the blessing of my wife, and learning to fit training into the small amounts of downtime in a bustling family.

I just got into tri last year and only did 2 races.

My goal this year was to do 3 local races and finish with HIM Tremblant. However with my sister-in-law wedding the same weekend as Tremblant and a 3rd kid anytime now, my plan has chnages to only do 2-3 local races.

Training while having a kids is doable. You just need to plan it in advance and make sure that you have the blessing of your significant other. She was very supportive of me keeping my trainning schedule but I made sure that I didn't take away to much family time. (time for her, time for the 2 kids)

Your training time will suffer and it is a fact. I say just keep going at it but re-evaluate your goal to finishing with a good time instead of going all out (PR races might be tough). My focus this year is to improve my time but also factor in the time spend training.

Good luck! Congrats btw!

You have to make sacrifices. I just put 5 hrs in on the trainer to ensure I will see my 3 oldest kids (7, 6, 5) play soccer while having our youngest (1) strapped to me via the baby Bjorn. Family always comes first. IMs and triathlons will always be there but kids grow up and move on.

We had our son (baby #1) in January and I started back up about a month later. I'm still not at the point where I can have as strict a routine as I had before though. I have an idea of what workouts I'd like to do and when would be ideal to do them...but little man is ultimately the one who sets my schedule.

Ummm, I never stopped.  I ran a 1/2 10 days after baby # 2.

Granted, that was right at the end of race season anyway, and then I had 7 months before Tri season started again.

Ha, I was about to congratulate you on your rockstar-ness, but then I saw that you weren't the one that gave birth.

I did my first tri when my youngest son was 3 - turning three that summer.

Well, currently pregnant (will deliver any day now), and planning for my first tri in September.  Have been training as able throughout and will resume as I feel able post-partum.  5k in July to help get me motivated.  May try to squeeze in one more tri this season.

As someone mentioned, training can affect supply if breastfeeding - makes it very important to pay close attention to nutrition and hydration.
