Less then two months away, how's everyone's training going?

If anyone's interested,

A couple of us BT'ers (myself and jlpete98) are meeting at Longview Lake to ride the KC tri course this Saturday.  We'll be there around 8:45, hoping to head out on the bike course by 9:00.  We'll probably do one loop (12.5 miles) slow to familiarize with the course, then pick up the pace for one or two more laps.  Then we're planning on running two laps (3.1 miles ea. lap) of the run course, probably easy pace the first 3.1 then pick up the pace on the second.

Training is going all right, weather has been great. Got a few training races (tri, du, and road) before then, (incl KC Tri) but focusing on Kansas 70.3 Any of you on dailymile.com (forum spammer) ?

Hey gang!

Very glad I found this thread.

I am very new to triathlon, in fact I just started training about 6 weeks.  Got drunk with some friends and made a bar bet.

Training has been going especially well, and can hopefully tag along for a ride/run some time soon.  I'm a bit busy the next two Saturday mornings.  I need to see the course and experience it a time or two before I get out there and see just how crazy I am.

Hope to meet a few of you all in the near future.

Chris

I'd love to ride the course with you all but I am racing a 5K that day instead.

I hope to get out and ride it beforehand though so it isn't a surprise to me on race day.

I'll be doing it along with my daughter. Won't be able to make it over to KC for any training rides. Is the bike course on MapMyRun?

Did a search on mapmyride.com and found the following, both are 2 loop courses:

FYI. I don't have the exact details in hand (since they are on Facebook - which is restricted to me at work), but on Tuesday May 15 there is going to be an open water swim clinic at the KC Tri race site. It will be fully supported with kayakers, marked course, and instruction for all levels of ability. Various open water swim tactics will also be discussed. If memory serves me correctly, it starts at 6:15pm. There is a suggested donation of $10 should you come out and participate, which will cover costs and to benefit a local charity/cause.

The old course was crowded last year, double the participants = bad. Two open lanes = great. But I don't think the new course has less hills as advertised but hills separate the strong from the weak!

Thanks for the link Jon. I agree with Monty, not as flat as advertised, but faster than the old course. 1300 participants. Wow. That's more than KS 70.3 (as of mid-April) and this is a two loop course. Looks like there will be a lot of riders out on the course.

The run course will be very crowded, especially the 2nd lap for the 5150 ers! Last year I had to do a lot of zig-zag running on the 2nd lap to get around people.

Has me wondering if I should change my run method. Normally I would open up at mile 3 to 4 till the finish. Thinking about opening it up the 2nd lap after leaving the transition area while on the wide road before the path, then settling in on the path since passing might be a challenge.

That sounds like fun- 1400 people on 12.5 miles of road, all on bikes!  Is this going to be draft legal now?

Isn't that why we all cheered when WTC and Ironman took it over?

More people.  More entries.  MORE MONEY!  YA BUDDY!

I took last year off from this event.  Signed up early since $50 for a tri is a rare find.  Hopefully I don't regret it.  1400 people riding around does not exactly sound fun.  I wonder what that downhill will look like with everyone riding their breaks?

Oops, my WTC bitter is showing.

1300???  You are joking right???  That is your guess....or is there somewhere you saw that number having signed up.  Is that parking lot even big enough for 1300 + vendors + Johnnies + YIKES

Last year with 600 seemed big...This should be fun...or like Pete said it will be draft legal due to lack of room to NOT draft.

1300 was posted on the Kansas City Triathon Face Book page about 3 weeks ago. They didn't provide a breakdown of the numbers though, i.e. number per sprint, Olympic, and relay teams but more than twice the number of previuos years.I calculate 100 people per mile on the 1.5 mile section of 3ft. wide path for the 2nd run lap of the run.

I rode the bike course yesterday.  My understanding is that all 4 lanes of Raytown road and 109th street will be shutdown to vehicular traffic so maybe that will help with congestion on the bike leg.  The run section will still be crowded I think though.

I'll be the "walker" off on the side of the gravel path.  I'll do my best to stay out of your way!  Yell

If you are opening up at mi 3-4, than you have not biked hard enough......, supposed to be rolling in the grass at that point, not opening up....

Funny Alex! I think I will save the rolling in the grass part for after the finish!

Other than the U turns the new bike course is smooth and fast!
