What is the average water temp for this triathlon. I debating on whether to rent a wet-suit or not. I don't feel like "wasting" my money on a rental, if I don't need one. Thanks!!

No clue.  This is my first year doing this event.  According to the website, the water is usually warm since it's a lake and no current.  But as always, a decision will be made about wet suits the morning of the race.  Your call...

I measured the water temperature yesterday at 70 degrees. The lake is up, water pretty stationary and clear. Water temp should come up to mid-70's by race day.

Thanks, Kevin

I signed up for this event! I live in Clarksville and this will be my second Tri to date (first being NashVegas last September). It was nice and hot here for a bit, but it seems to have cooled off a bit with temps in the high 60's and low 70's. I am hoping it will warm a little more the week of, not so much the weekend before since I am running the Country Music 1/2. I am looking forward to this race though - a friend from our running club said it was a good event last year!

We have had a cold front come in and now I am worried about a wetsuit. Any suggestions or guidance? The swim is my weakest event, so I am happy to get it over with Tongue out And my DH (first time tri for him) is signing up as well - but he is a good swimmer and all around athlete!

Have you checked with the event director to see if they will have wet suit rentals on site?  Sometimes Acme Multisports sets up their tent at the events.  FWIW.....I would plan on renting one.

unless it's out of the 70s, i wouldn't worry about a wetsuit for a sprint.. will waste too much time taking it off.. but your call..

I ended up getting one from Amazon - a shorty. If it fits and I can swim in it - then cool, if not, I will roll in my TriSuit. Silly question - but what do I wear under my wetsuit? Maybe shorts and a sports bra and then pop a top on in the transition area..... The thought of a long wetsuit makes me feel claustrophobic and I am not normally that way. I am a chronic under-dresser, but I don't want to risk getting to cold seeing as how I am not a super strong swimmer - make sense?

Wear what you expect to race the rest of the race in (tri suit, etc). For me I race only in my tri-suit and wear that under my wetsuit if I need to wear one. I'm probably not the best person to give you advice on sports bra, etc type approach not knowing what you normally race in coming out of the water in a non-wetsuit race, and the fact that i'm a guy...

Todd - I think they use that term quite loosely around here..

Dig the new ride, sick man!

Diane....I follow the same practice as Derek.  I wear a tri-suit underneath my wetsuit so I don't waste time in transition dressing.  I've seen female triathletes do the same thing which is what I recommend for you.

Derek....Yea.  I'm pretty stoked about my new ride.  Got a little intimidated yesterday because I was going so fast.  Thanks for the encouragement brother!

Wetsuit Rentals - We have not had any commitments for "on-site" wetsuit rentals. XTERRA Wetsuits does do rentals & we have a purchase discount code. Local retailers - like Acme - will rent wetsuits for about $45 per week.

Full wet suits provide more buoyancy and usually make you a bit quicker. Down side is getting out of those sleeves!

Pre-event info to go out later this week.

Ok - now looking at the weather, it looks like it's going to warm up. My DH is not convinced that we will need one, but he is a better swimmer.

Kevin - what has been the recent water temps if available?

I won't have water temps until Thursday. Was 70 degrees a few weeks ago. Will go up this week.

Acme Multisports will be on-site. I'll see if they'll have any wet suit rentals.

Thanks, Kevin

I just got the pre-race info - all of it well laid out and understandable! I am getting nervous though! YIKES!! I had a horrible half at the CM this past weekend, so I am hoping to do well on this race this weekend to boost my confidence up a little.

Went out and looked at the course this afternoon and met Kevin. Kevin was nice, but the course is a lot for this 2nd timer newbie! Send me some good swimming and hill climbing vibes! This is my DH's first and he is excited too!

Congratulations to everyone.  Awesome event.  Tougher course than I expected.  Great venue for a race.  Transition area was a little rough.  Awards took a while.  Volunteers were great.  Well organized.  Will be back!
