Expert 932 Chandler, AZ | Subject: OWS clinic...which BT'ers will be there I know this was brought up in the "OWS" thread, but for those who didn't see it I thought I'd give it its own thread...Who's gonna be there?? Always love meeting other BT'ers. Look for me; I'm the brown dude with the receding hairline.
Saturday. 2:00pm until 3:30pm. Saguaro Lake, Butcher Jones Cove Come put theory into practice in a friendly environment! This is prior to the first OWS and Splash n Dash. Learn new techniques or just come wash the winter rust off before the first open water events of the year. Saguaro should be nice quality this early in the season (though maaaybe a bit chilly) so we recommend wetsuits. This will be a clinic format with discussion, demonstration, and practice of the following: The parts of your technique that are most important in open water Sighting Drafting Race Strategy We'll meet on the beach at Butcher Jones Cove at Saguaro Lake at 2:00pm. Remember you need to buy a Tonto Pass for $6 before entering the park. Also, we recommend wearing a triracer if you have one and bringing your running shoes so you can take a little warm-up jog prior and hit the water loose and toasty. |

Expert 932 Chandler, AZ | Subject: RE: OWS clinic...which BT'ers will be there I'm gonna be up there with a friend at about 9am...We're going to take our bikes back down to Fountain Hills and ride the hilly roads there for a while and then head back to the lake (about 50 mile round trip), enjoy our packed lunch on the lake and then attend the clinic. Maybe we'll end up running into each other... |

Veteran 267 Avondale | Subject: RE: OWS clinic...which BT'ers will be there We may see each other a couple of times! I am meeting Phx Tri club @ 7:30 for OWS followed by a 5 mile run. Interestingly, after a little nutrition break (late breakfast), my wife and I are driving to Fountain Hills to ride bikes a hilly 25-30 miles. |

Expert 932 Chandler, AZ | Subject: RE: OWS clinic...which BT'ers will be there The ride was awesome and the swim was fun...It was good for me, but I bet it would have been even better for some of the less experienced OWS'ers. They split us up into two groups and basically the more experienced group spent a majority of the time practicing passing and swimming all over each other...Definitely the most contact I've had in the water and I have a lot more confidence getting into the mix for my next race. Great group of people as well...
Even had a little run in with a bunch of leech-like parasites that attached themselves to our feet during one of the breaks...yeah, that was interesting. |

Veteran 267 Avondale | Subject: RE: OWS clinic...which BT'ers will be there Very nice...except for the parasites. I had an allergic reaction to some of the pollen. Cut my swim short due to wheezing, but still fantastic. I am taking mends before the Red Rock clinic out there next week. Anyone going to that? |

Veteran 263 Goodyear | Subject: RE: OWS clinic...which BT'ers will be there Had an awesome 60 mile ride around Scottsdale, Fountain Hill's and Beeline. Thank you Susan! Went to the lake to do my OWS and it was so nice getting into the water. My wetsuit ripped in the back. Kind of gave me a drag workout but got the job done. Started the swim before the clinic. Stayed for the speech. It was helpful! Yes, the tiny little leeches. If you stand around in the mud they will attach onto you (feet). I use some menthol ointment to keep them off me. Dr. Hoy's stuff. Went to TripleSport to buy the rubber cement and patch. Dan Quick was awesome help. Nice seeing friends out there! Edited by SunshineEstrella 2012-04-01 6:56 PM |

Member 1487 Scottsdale, AZ | Subject: RE: OWS clinic...which BT'ers will be there Tracy - you did AWESOME on the ride!! The Beeline is no longer a mystery :-)! I was planning on attending the RedRock OWS...but now hearing about the leeches - ewwww. Maybe I will just wait for the Splash N Dash. One of the good things about TTL...not much can live in there ;-)! |

Veteran 267 Avondale | Subject: RE: OWS clinic...which BT'ers will be there My wife waited on the shore while the rest of us were swimming, and she was leech free. Believe me, I would have known if they got close. maybe they were still sleeping or chilly in the a.m. |
