At least White Bake/White Freeze continues to surprise and challenge every year! For a "flat" and "easy" HIM course, its a beyoch! Congrats to you guys for toughing it out!

I'm going to continue to do this race until we get "perfect" conditions, then I'll be satisfied!! Smile

So wish I could of made it. Laid up in bed with 103 temperature last week and had nothing come Wednesday. Never have had had a bad day at WL, but always have been challenged. How was the run in the cool air. I always remember the run for two things, summer arriving right at the time I started running and the run aid stations being a disaster with all the trash and no ice.

Notasfast,

This was my 4th White Lake Half and I really blew up in the heat last year, but I set my previous PR in 2011 when conditions "were not that bad".

At lot of factors played into my performance on Saturday (improved fitness, proper pacing on the bike, cooler weather) but I ran the course 19 minutes faster than I have ever run it before and that translated into a 13 minute PR for me.

I really hope they keep this race in April in the future.  I know everyone was worried about the water temperature, but I think that was really a product of an unusually cold March. And, as has already been stated, the real battle on the swim was not the cold water but the chop from the wind.

Props to all of you that did the swim.  I opted for the DU.  Nothing new on race day would have gone out the window if I went thru with the swim.  First Half attempt for me.  Disappointed but it was the correct decision for me.  Hated the last few miles on hwy 53 too!!!

Congrats to everyone who raced the half! Prior to the Sprint the next morning, the PA announcer reminded us all several times how much easier we had it than you guys who swam at 52 degrees in choppy water.  What a great weekend it was!
