Total Time = 52m 43s
Overall Rank = 30/500
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 1/
Pre-race routine:

Arrived at 8am to rack my bike. Since my seat is high it usually doesnt sit on the rail very well so I have to be there early to raise the bike bar.
Event warmup:

Lots of stretching, 1 mile run, more stretching, and 300 m swim. 30 minutes before my start time race I had 1 gel and 1 pack of energy beans. Jogged rather than walk all around the course to stay warmed up
Swim
  • 04m 43s
  • 300 meters
  • 01m 34s / 100 meters
Comments:

Got stuck behind another swimmer at 150m, I thought I might catch him b/c he started really hard and fast and didn't look like he could hold the pace. Once past him, the hardest part was changing lanes. Im not the best at flip turns and this wasnt the time to practice them.
What would you do differently?:

Work on flip turns while going under the lane divider...seems like a waste of a workout though b/c it doesnt come easy for me.
Transition 1
  • 01m 13s
Comments:

Got helmet on and bike unracked fairly easily...off to the bike
What would you do differently?:

Run faster into transition
Bike
  • 27m 22s
  • 10 miles
  • 21.92 mile/hr
Comments:

I lost about a minute on the bike. Last week I flatted 3 times so I was convinced that I had flatted again today so I stopped. The rear tire was a bit low, but not flat. Just the road and my mind playing games with me. Once back on the bike it took me awhile to get back up to speed b/c I was watching the rear tire to see if it was holding. Finally, I just decided to go for it focus on racing.
What would you do differently?:

Stop worrying about getting a flat and just race.
Transition 2
  • 01m 4s
Comments:

When racking the bike, I hit someone elses bike and had to catch it before it fell. Took a few seconds extra but every bit counts

Some random dude was in the transition area standing next to the bike I almost knocked over...where was security and who was he?
Run
  • 18m 23s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 05m 55s  min/mile
Comments:

Last year I ran a 7:03 pace, this year I managed a 5:55 pace. I started running hills last month and it's made all the difference. The pace was comfortable and I wish I had pushed harder b/c it felt like I was running a 7:15ish pace.
What would you do differently?:

Open my stride up earlier, the run was easier at that point.
Post race
Warm down:

Walk around and sip Gatorade. Stretched a little, should have done more

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Thinking I had a flat tire and not being able to flip turn under lane dividers

Event comments:

Setup Events started their season off very well. The race was organized and I wish them a successful year.

My only concern was mystery man in T2, he wasn't dressed to race and shouldn't have been there.

Good to hear you had a good race. I took almost 6 minutes off last year's race time overall so I am super excited. I understand the flat situation. They always seem to happen several times in succession to me too. I ended up putting a liner in and haven't worried since. Adds a few grams to your tire but its worth the piece of mind.
