Pre-race routine:

Not a lot. Registered, racked our bikes, dropped our bags off...
I was sticking back in the swim with Tim to make sure he didn't panic in the wave start, so I put my wetsuit on for a 300m swim.
Event warmup:

Bit of a swim.
Swim
  • 07m 25s
  • 300 meters
  • 02m 28s / 100 meters
Comments:

Tim started heading a little of course so I called him back. Just stuck with him, did polo for most of the swim. The last 75m I knew he was going to be ok, so I put my head down a little, got to the exit and walked until he caught up to me for a fist bump and a good job.
What would you do differently?:

It's my race next time.
PP was devo that I was not swimming hard out so he could draft off me. Lol.
Transition 1
  • 02m 13s
Comments:

I wondered whether I should wait for Tim in transition because I could still see him messing around but then I realised that he would catch me anyway so I just went out.
Bloody long transition runs are ridiculous at Gatorade.
What would you do differently?:

Don't look around, but go.
Bike
  • 20m 44s
  • 10 kms
  • 28.94 km/hr
Comments:

Had an amazing ride. Took the roadie out instead of the TT, a) because it was a mini and b) because Tyson is still in pieces in the bag from Singapore... so lazy...
But I put the race wheels on the roadie, and they look bloody amazing!! :)
What would you do differently?:

Not a lot. It was a good ride. I probably didn't have a lot more in the legs, because my hip flexors are still sore. I need to get used to the slightly different setup of this new bike before Cairns.
Transition 2
  • 02m 23s
Comments:

I had a numb toe and just couldn't get my left foot into my shoes.
I cracked the shits and stood there for a minute trying to feel my feet before I left transition. And walked out. Poor form.
What would you do differently?:

Not a lot. I actually ran with my bike :)
Run
  • 20m 46s
  • 3 kms
  • 06m 55s  min/km
Comments:

This is fast for me. Especially backing up the few weeks I've had.
And I was loving my run?! What the hell was the go there??
There are good signs kids. Good signs.
I need to race technology free more often. I had a good time with this. Though, I do like to know distance, but good thing I couldn't see pace etc.
What would you do differently?:

Not a lot. Walk less because the run was pretty fast otherwise!
Post race
Warm down:

None. We basically went and got our crap and went home after that, because I was the last CCTS athlete to finish.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nothing. I had a good race :D

Event comments:

Nothing that the Gatorade series can't do. Too long transition runs but what can you do.
I need to learn not to take my Gatorade series back from last year, because everyone has one and it just gets lost.

Great job Jess - all the good karma will come your way for helping somebody through their first tri.

But I did laugh at you cracking the .... again!

Hope you've recovered from Singapore!  Keep going, you're getting so much stronger now.

Nige, I crack the regularly. I'm a gun for it.

I need to wiggle my toes a bit more so that doesn't happen in transition lol :D
