Total Time = 00m
Overall Rank = /
Age Group = 50-54
Age Group Rank = 7/15
Pre-race routine:

The usual.
Event warmup:

Short jog, stretching.
Swim
  • 09m 55s
  • 440 yards
  • 02m 16s / 100 yards
Comments:

The water was very shallow so it was basically a run almost out to the first buoy. This was the most crowded wave I was ever in. There was a huge pile up at the buoy and impossible to swim, just treading water until around the buoy. I headed out a little to get away from the crowd. I was really breathing hard and had to take it slow for about 50 yards to get calmed down. I am usually in the top 50% on the swim but not today. Maybe because of the slow start.
What would you do differently?:

Try and head further out to the left. This was tough because there were so many competitors.
Transition 1
  • 01m 3s
Comments:

Good transition. I came in about 50 yards behind a friend and left before him.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Bike
  • 28m 1s
  • 10 miles
  • 21.42 mile/hr
Comments:

Great ride. The first time I looked down at computer I was at about 21.5. Final average was about 21.4 which is one of my top bike rides. Usually I start very slow. At about the turn around I caught up to a guy that I am always competing with and had passed me coming out of the water. He commented, "You are like a bad penny, always turning up". I passed him, he passed me, I passed him without about a mile to go and left him.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Transition 2
  • 01m 36s
Comments:

Good transition. I wanted to run without socks but tore some skin off my toe last week and was afraid of tearing it again. (Playing basketball with my kids without shoes on, if you want to know)
What would you do differently?:

Skip the socks.
Run
  • 17m 43s
  • 2.6 miles
  • 06m 49s  min/mile
Comments:

Good run for me. I caught up to a TNT friend who usually kicks my butt by a couple of minutes. We ran close. I passed him on the way out on the second lap but he passed me on the way home and beat me by only 12 seconds. The guy I passed on the bike caught me with about 1/2 mile to go and we ran together until he sprinted to the end.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around, drank lots of water.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I have not done much training since St. Anthony's due to a nagging cold, congestion, etc.

Event comments:

Although I didn't place high in any of the events except T1 I felt like it was a great race for me. There were a lot of us grouped in about the same time finish.

Great race location. Good post race events.

I am not that fast!!!! The distance must have been shorter than the advertised 2.6 miles. Maybe I could do a sub 8 but not sub 7.

Sorry I missed seeing you out there-ran into Sharon...sorry I didn't do the race, too...looks like it was a good one, other than the congested swim start...Great time on the bike!!!!  And the run, even if the distance was off a smidge.
