Pre-race routine:

I went out last night...maybe not the smartest thing to do but I am used to functioning without a lot of sleep.
Then I couldn't fall asleep!! WTF!. I have poison ivy on my back, chest and arm and it was driving me nuts. I was up and down and finally got up at 4:45.
I woke up my daughter and her friend. they were coming to cheer me on and volunteer.
Event warmup:

Met Kathy, Emily, Laura and a new MA BT'er (I can't remember her name...sorry)
Set up transition and chatted for a bit.
Watched the fast people coming from the pool.
Ran for a while with Kathy then hung out with with my daughter Lizzy and her friend Chelsey...they were done bodymarking.
I looked up and saw numbers that were really close to mine coming out of the pool area so I ran in and barely made it to my spot.
Swim
  • 05m 38s
  • 250 yards
  • 02m 15s / 100 yards
Comments:

I didn't know that they didn't provide swim caps so I didn't bring one.
So when I jumped into line with 60 seconds to spare I realized my goggles were too big because all my hair is usually stuffed into my cap. Also my hair was in my eyes and my goggles were foggy!
At the ends of the lanes people were getting clustered up, it was almost immpossible to pass I was getting out of breath...nerves I think. I swim in the pool a lot!
What would you do differently?:

adjust my goggles before...bring a swim cap...get in line earlier!
Transition 1
  • 02m
Comments:

I'm not sure about this time.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe go sockless on the bike.
Bike
  • 34m 9s
  • 9.3 miles
  • 16.34 mile/hr
Comments:

KathyG passed me pretty early on. I got passed a lot at first. then I did some passing toward the end.
At one point I was going 37 MPH.
What would you do differently?:

Ride more
Transition 2
  • 02m
Comments:

passed my rack because I couldn't remember where I was!
What would you do differently?:

remember where I rack!
Get quick laces for my shoes.
Run
  • 35m 49s
  • 3.2 miles
  • 11m 11s  min/mile
Comments:

I struggled during the run and walked once. It would really help if they had mile markers for motivation.
I got passed by a lot of people and I didn't pass anyone.
Someone was trying to pass me right before the chute. I could hear him behind me, so I sped up...no fair to pass at the last minute!
What would you do differently?:

I need to work on my speed but I am happy to be able to run without injury.
Do more bricks and hillwork.
Post race
Warm down:

Lizzy, Chelsy and EmilyG were working the finish line and Kathy, Laura and her husband were there cheering too. It was awesome!
Hung out for a bit and had some food.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

extra weight!! I need to train more and maybe.. lack of sleep.

Event comments:

This was a nice small race...we really lucked out and got beautiful weather.
It was great to see Kathy win 1st place in her division! She really deserves it!

Nice race Patty!  Looks pretty even, you did well in everything.  Good bike speed especially.  Sounds like you had a lot of fun, it's always great with other BT-ers there...takes some of the pressure off when you have som friends around!

Patty...you did great...3rd triathlon....you should be very proud!!

You finished strong and looked super crossing the finish line. How fun to be welcomed to the finish by your daughter!!

Being with you before the start and especially on our warm up run took my mind off things and helped me not be nervous...it was super!!

You are going faster as the summer progresses...I think we'll be very close at Cranberry and Mooseman!

It was so great racing with you...I'm so glad you did this race!!

Nice job in the race.  Sorry about the goggle issue.  No swim cap?  Kind of strange.

I had made that same T2 mistake before.
