Swim
  • 29m 15s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 47s / 100 yards
Comments:

Got out to the side and found clean water right away. Was in the lead pack to the first turn and then started running into swimmers from the 1st wave doing the breaststroke. Actual swim time was better as this time included a 500 yd run to the timing mat at transition.
What would you do differently?:

Took a better angle to the first turn.
Transition 1
  • 03m 45s
Comments:

Had to remove timing chip to get suit off.
What would you do differently?:

Run a bit faster up the hill.
Bike
  • 1h 18m 19s
  • 24.85 miles

Comments:

Great bike, rode hard and passed a lot of slower riders. Yelled at Macca when he passed heading back to transition.
What would you do differently?:

Pushed the hills a bit harder.

Great race, enjoyed the bike, could have finished stronger in the swim as I had quite a bit left in the tank. Finishing in the sand it pretty tough.

It was my first and the bike route was great. I'm headed down to swim and ride the Keahou course. I'm planning on the Honu HIM next year and thought these would be good experiences for that race. My run was miserable as I was cramping throughout and just suffered through but wasn't able to push anywhere close to my normal 8:30 pace.Have you done the HIM? Bike looks like the hilly part of the IM....

Yes the HIM is great. I'm doing it again this year for the 3rd time. If you need any info or advice on it, feel free to PM me.

Great job Captain Morgan, even with leg cramps on the run you had a good overall time.  Just wondering if you were hot wearing the wetsuit during the swim?

Noel, lucky you get to race with Lance at the Honu!

Thanks, looking forward to the next one. I brought both my wetsuit for longer OW training and speed suit for the race. When they announced it was wetsuit legal I decided to wear it. In hindsight I probably should have stuck with the speed suit given the temp and run length to transition as my swim times are typically about the same with either.
