Where are are single male triathletes in their late 30's early 40's ?  I meet only runners and  cyclists who live far away.

Seriously...wish there was something like this...the girls I date won't even go running with me.  Or hiking, biking, swimming, walking, pogo-sticking.  They normally only like drinking, partying while drinking, going to eating while drinking, clubbing while drinking, and even drinking while drinking.  Oh, and being crazy lol

I joined that site for a few months. Not one guy within 50 miles of my zip code - at least in my age range. Very, very slim pickings. I've had MUCH better luck on match.com, despite the crazy over there.

As for fitness-singles... I saw this and looked at it briefly last night. It looks like a site that is struggling to get members. Not a lot there.

Match.com - I just canceled my membership there last night, too. It's a great site if you're a player (nothing wrong with that if it is what you're looking for), but if you're looking for something more than that, it's probably not the best place to look.

So, this seems like as good a thread as any to start the triathlon dating thing again. I know of at least one couple that are happily hooked up due to the last one.

Me: single, mom to 1, injured triathlete, slowly, slowly attempting a come back. Must not be afraid of looking goofy (note the avatar).

Also disagree... met the guy I'm kinda seeing on Match and gone out with many others who are definitely looking for a long-term relationship. Also every one of my single girlfriends is on Match - they are definitely not "players" and the guys they've dated aren't either.

Of course there are the players and crazies on there, but much like the non-virtual world, you just have to filter them out.

INHO, fitness-singles and match are both lame.   Training and dating someone who doesn't train doesn't seem to mix.  Oh well,

57, 6'2", kids are all grown and on their own. I do have interest other than Tri. I am mostly Oly distance. Training for Cedar Point 70.3

cgregg - 2012-04-04 10:12 AM hah! Ok, so maybe I just need to try harder... or something I have been on there about 7 months now and just haven't had much luck at all.

I hear this from some of my girlfriends and wonder...

- What their profile says
Match provides some great suggestions, but the most important when I'm looking at profiles is that it not be boring or generic. If you are actually boring and generic, then, words won't help you. But say something unique about yourself, be honest in what you're looking for, humor goes a long ways. Have a (girl) friend look at what you're putting out there and let her give suggestions. There will be a balance between writing a book about yourself and just a few vague lines... but the more you can give in terms of flavor of who you are, the better off you'll be. And please spell/grammar check.

- What pictures they have posted
Some guys I usually dismiss are those with these types of photos: Muscle flexing, with obvious ex-girlfriends they didn't crop out, all photos of big groups or too far away to tell who you are, just absolutely terrible photo of you (really? you can't smile? Or put on a shirt?) or no photos at all. Again Match has some great suggestions - use your best smile, when you're having fun, with friends (but let me know which one is you), with family, doing a hobby, etc. - use a wide variety of photos. Again, have a girl friend help you pick them.

- If they are being proactive
You gotta put it out there. Wink, send emails, etc. (but stop if they are being ignored - please). Not sure how you can expect someone to fall in your lap if you're not putting forth the effort. Lots of my friends don't put any effort forth in real life, too, and have had zero results there as well.

Those 3 things, in my experience, have yielded me some great results.

My friend met her boyfriend (who she now lives with) on fitnesssingles.com about 2 years ago. They are both cyclists and a great match. I love the guy.

Prior to that my friend who is quite an elite athlete went on a bunch of dates from the website and every date was active. She had 3 dates in 1 day which meant playing golf, playing tennis and a hike all in 1 day. With her boyfriend, they rode their bikes to the velodrome and then did a ride at the velodrome and rode home. So I guess if it doesn't work out at least you get to do something fun while dating. :D

I have found that on the dating sites "active" or "runner" mean totally different things to others than they do to me.

Case in point:  Just because you ran a 5k last year does not make you a runner.  It's lead to some disappointing 1st dates.
