Pre-race routine:

haven't really developed a pre-race routine, pretty much just had breakfast and went to the lake. found all the stations i needed to find and got in the water to wait for the start.
Swim
  • 14m 46s
  • 437 yards
  • 03m 23s / 100 yards
Comments:

this may possibly might have been the worst experience of my life. i'm realistic enough to not let this get me down but this swim was a downright disaster. i was completely thrown off by all the bumping and hitting. i thought was prepared for it, i thought i could at least go half the distance before needing help. i felt like i started off really good. i was concentrating on moving slowly, i felt really bouyant. thought i had let everyone get out in front of me. didn't count on there being guys slower than me even. i got tired really fast, not even as far as the distance i could swim in practice. ended up dog paddling 2/3rds the distance, thats right, i dog paddled 2/3rds of four-hundred something yards.
What would you do differently?:

i will go with a bare torso. once i started gasping for air the top felt too restrictive. at that point any extra effort to breath was too much. then not look around everytime someone runs into me, i probably should have just ignored it and kept my head down.
Transition 1
  • 02m 23s
Comments:

i didn't have any feelings about this transition. i was so wiped out from the swim that i just took my time and put all the things i would need on and took off.
What would you do differently?:

just do everything the same and faster.
Bike
  • 31m 20s
  • 10 miles
  • 19.15 mile/hr
Comments:

bike is my strongest performance, just need to put in the time so it will be stronger.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Transition 2
  • 01m 26s
Comments:

as i improve, just make this faster.
Run
  • 29m 9s
  • 3 miles
  • 09m 43s  min/mile
Comments:

don't know how to comment on this, the suffering wasn't too bad but i still walked a bunch. pretty stupid.
What would you do differently?:

not walk at all
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

the swim killed me, i never recovered. i think the low level panic combined with the distance to wipe me out and i never recovered from that.

Way to go, Robert -- you put in a very solid performance there on the bike AND the run! Don't sweat the swim, it's hard to get used to. I'm still wondering if I can stay in a straight line on Monday...

Congratulations again on your first race!
