Bunsbert Montcroff - 2012-04-17 9:56 AM Anybody keeping an eye on the water temps of TTL? Looks like this one might not be wetsuit legal.
It was 64 Sunday for Marquee, says it was 69 today...fwiw. I dunno, gonna get warm over the next week or so..

I'm probably going without a wetsuit even if it is legal. It'll be warm enough in the water soon. I was surprised to see a bunch of people do the Marquee Tri without wetsuits. That water looked cold

The water has to top 78 to be ruled a non-wetsuit race.  Even then you can wear a wetsuit, you just cannot podium.  I highly doubt the water will get past 72ish before race day, even with the warm front passing through.

Tom - the water was 67 and felt so much warmer than Oceanside.  I jumped in and never got the cold shock I expected - no short breathing, etc.  It was cooler than a pool, but very comfortable (sleeveless wetsuit).

Feel like I know the answer to this question but, can I just swim in my tri shorts and top? Also is this an open water start?

I just signed up for the sprint distance because I figured out that, even though I suck at this, I really love racing and race day!!!  Isn't that why we do all of this training!  Besides, I love the grin on my face waiting for my wave to start!

Mirg - 2012-04-17 9:48 AM In for the OLY..I need to redeem myself after a crappy swim at Marquee and I'm looking to do more CRUSHING on the run.

I'm out for the OLY (yes, I'm "that guy" that just quoted himself). Gonna focus on Boise 70.3 and have decided not to lose the weekend of long training.

Good luck everybody!

If anyone is not finished by the time the temps hit the daily high, they are in SERIOUS trouble.  A 6:30 Olympic and 7:00 Sprint start should get most off the course by 10:00.  Either way, it is going to be WARM out there!

Yes it's going to be a warm one!

Just a clarification but the athlete guide states the Sprint starts first at 6:30.  First wave of the Olympic goes off at 6:42.

Anybody thinking about ditching the wetsuit?  I've been watching the water temp and early morning readings show the water around 73-74 degrees.  That's getting a little warm.

See you guys out there.

I am doing the sprint distance and am considering not usin my wetsuit.  My first triathlon was last year's Nathan's sprint distance.  Rio Salado has the same course, so I want as many things the same so I can see if I am actually getting better at this!

Just read the athlete guide, getting all excited! For what it's worth, I'm not wearing a wetsuit either. Good luck everyone... hope to say hi to you all on race day, and personally wish you good luck!

Not me.....I will wear a wetsuit any day of the week, and twice on Sunday.  With the awesome wetsuit peelers, I will gladly give up 5-10 seconds for them to strip it off to gain minutes in the water, and have more energy from the buoyancy and not having to work so hard to be on top of the water.

I will be another "naked" swimmer (no wetsuit, but I WILL have tri clothes on, don't worry). I can't stand that thing. I really would swim naked if they'd let me. I feel so much better when I wear less. I'm just not looking forward to that first feeling of cold water when I get in. I know I'll warm up, but treading in the cold sucks!

See you all Saturday!!!!

It will be good to see you back out and in-action Adela.  I take it you have completed rehab on your injury?

Well.....somewhat. I still have butt/leg pain from time to time, so it's possible that I'll be limping towards the end. But I'm getting used to putting up with it. My PR is 3:01. I'm trying to make it under 3 tomorrow. If I make it, I'll celebrate with junk food. If I don't make it, I'll drown my sorrows in junk food :D
