Subject: Weird garmin issue today on ride.
I mentioned this in todays training thread but figured I would get a better response in its own thread. Today on my ride my garmin showed my HR was constantly in the 230-265 range. I know I'm not a hummingbird so I figured it was probably something with my strap. Anyone had issues like this before?

I figure it might be the battery or something.

Every now and they my graphs show spikes up to around 250, which I know is not accurate.  I think this is fairly common.

Interesting that this happened to you today, as I had the same thing happen on my ride... there was a significant portion- the first 10 miles of the ride where my HR was between 210 and 250.  This threw off the whole 50 mile ride by around 10 bpm...  usually it's not a significant amount of time like this.

I had a couple weird HR spikes on my ride today too.  Maybe it was a solar flare or something...Laughing

This is common when your hrm (the strap and transmitter) are beginning to fail. If you purchased it less than a year ago, it's under warranty. If you can get this to happen consistently, Garmin sends out a new one, no questions asked. I'm on my fourth.

This has been happening to me too lately. Max hr on my last ride was 243. Stinks because I actually use the HR info.

What kind of shirt were you wearing?

I've heard that this can happen with a loose shirt that flaps a lot.  On the bike this is more likely.

x2, this is my experience as well.  Mine has done that for the last 4 years that I have owned it and I use it for every run and every bike ride.  I especially notice it if I am wearing a tech shirt and if it is a little loose.  Try this, put some water on the shirt (or sweat) and it will quit sliding around so much.  The way I understand it the static electricity generated with the shirt flapping around "triggers" the HRM to think it was your heart beating.

I wore a tech shirt over a compression shirt. That must have been it.
