Pre-race routine:

Rush, get race number, rush
Event warmup:

Not much, jogged a little
Run
  • 32m 29s
  • 5 miles
  • 06m 30s  min/mile
Comments:

Not much to say about my first run, stayed on pace and got the feel for the course.
What would you do differently?:

Warm up not run late
Transition 1
  • 00m 45s
Comments:

duathlon t1 is easier than triathlon t1
What would you do differently?:

go faster
Bike
  • 1h 27m 53s
  • 31 miles
  • 21.16 mile/hr
Comments:

I biked on my brand new Orbea Ordu SLT. When I say brand new I mean I was cutting the seatpost at 7pm the night before. It actually rode well considering I had not attempted a fit and had been on it less than a half mile before racing. I hear that is a no no but hey... I did it!
What would you do differently?:

Have my bike properly fit. Be a stronger cyclist.
Transition 2
  • 00m 41s
Comments:

Being that I had never dismounted from this bike, I almost came to a stop before dismounting. Otherwise normal hammer fest.
What would you do differently?:

Have more training dismounting from the bike
Run
  • 36m 24s
  • 5 miles
  • 07m 17s  min/mile
Comments:

I havent done many bricks this year so coming off of the bike into the second run was rather painful. My feet and shins were screaming at me and I was unable to get near my pace that I wanted. My new friend Bill (fgump) was right at every turn around. On the second lap I checked my garmin and saw there was only 1.6 left and was able to turn it up a bit. I think my last 2 miles were sub 7 at least. Either way I finished strong and thats what matters.
What would you do differently?:

Do more bricks, do more training. Get more rest. Do better
Post race
Warm down:

Eat some pizza, meet some people, check results, get my t shirt.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Working the night shift all week and staying up all day friday, I can always blame that. Not training to my full potential.

Event comments:

Great race for my first duathlon. Got to meet some of my fellow BTers in person (Louiske is tall!) Had a great time with competitors and friends!

You had a very solid race. I hate to see what kind of time you can put up once you are fitted to that bike! I was very curious to see how you and fgump would stack up- nice race you two had with each other in the end.

LOL, "louiskie is tall" cracks me up. AND I cut my hair so I am sorry I started talking to you like you were supposed to know who I was, when in fact you had no idea! :-) Good to meet you finally. Train hard. See you at another one of these things sometime soon!

You turning it up was right where I was turning it down...I thought I was making headway then suddenly you were GONE!  Nice job Jon.
