Pre-race routine:

Banana. PB&J. Pepto/antacids. It was really cold early in the morning, so I mostly shivered and paced around.

Comments:

This was the first race of the year, so I am pretty pleased with my pacing.
What would you do differently?:

If I could do it again, I would really turn up the speed about a mile or two sooner. I had more left in the tank when I crossed the finish line.

Also, it is probably always a bad idea to wear new shoes for these longer races. By about mile 9 I was really suffering from the blisters which may have had an impact on my speed and focus.

Event comments:

I am sure if you read a few of these race logs you will see a lot of comments about the smell. That is what will stick in my mind when I think back to this race. The course runs right past a waste treatment facility which smells like poo. That was gross, but I don't know if it would keep me from doing the race again next year. We all had a good laugh when we hit the wall of stink.
