Pre-race routine:

Ate a power bagel and a banana. Got to transition at 0520 and set everything up.
Event warmup:

Didn't get a warm-up in. At the last minute they decided to change the race and everyone did the My First Tri course. So instead of a 0720 start, I started at 0700. That threw off my pre-race gel and PreRace pills. I took the gel and PreRace pills at 0645. Definitely not early enough.

Comments:

There were so many of us starting and it was only 300meters long. It was crazy the whole time fighting though traffic and swimming over people. Rounding the buoys was insanely crowded. Finally the last 50meters I had some room and could actually swim.
What would you do differently?:

Start more towards the front.
Transition 1
  • 02m 47s
Comments:

As always it was hard to get my suit off. Other than that, transition went well.

Comments:

Lot of wind out there today. My aero drink fell off the first few seconds on the course. Not sure what happened with the velcro. Spent about a minute trying to fix that thing and I ended up dumping it out and sticking it underneath my jersey in the back. Almost lost my right shoe. As I was about to put my foot in, I accidentley cliped it out with my hand. Luckily I held onto it. Finally got my shoe on and got up to speed. Other than the crappy start I had an awesome fast bike. I passed so many people. The 808 wheels worked great with the new tires on there. This was my first race with the wheels. I was really debating whether to put on my other wheels because it was so windy out, but ended up keeping the 808's on. It was a little scary at times with the wind gusts. Also going over some of the bricks was a little scary cause everything was so wet from the rain. Took the corners extra slow so I wouldn't crash. Overall I felt like I had a pretty good bike.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. The effort was perfect.
Transition 2
  • 00m 1s
Comments:

Had a great T2. Everything went smooth. Didn't wear a hat or sunglasses today. Just took off my helmet, put on my shoes, and grabbed my race belt and I was off.

Comments:

Legs felt great but the stomach didn't cooperate. This was the first time ever that I had stomach issues. The only thing I can think of is that I wasn't able to take the PreRace pills early enough. At about 1 mile a had to start slowing down a bit because of my stomach. When I hit my 1.25, I walked for about 10seconds and I started to gag and almost threw up. The next 0.25 miles was really slow. With 0.50miles left, I finally just pushed through it and tried not to think about how bad my stomach was hurting. Had a great pace that last half mile. The legs felt great. Just wish I didn't have the stomach issues and I would have had an awesome run.

Event comments:

Staci did a great job at making some game time decisions. I'm glad that they shortened the race instead of making it a duathlon.
